New edge swap to 351w

Hello all,
I currently am the owner of a 2002 mustang with an engine that just needs to go..... high mileage, strange noises, broken parts etc... i want it gone

I have a 351w engine thats been sitting for a while and i have so many questions about this swap and im not sure where to find answers

351w:
HIGHLY MODIFIED
Cams,
4 barrel carb
larger pistons

I need to know if this is a straight forward swap..
What will i need?
Will it bolt to the stock trans?
Can the trans handle the power?
How do you switch an efi Car to a Carbed car?
Do i need suspension upgrades?

IMO if we define the work as "plug and play", this is not it.

An "old school" OHV motor will not bolt up to a modular transmission. Count the number of bolt holes around the starter. It will bolt up to a transmission from a V6.

Maybe. But IMO the bigger problem is the 4R70W is a PCM controlled transmission. So some planning will need to be done for engine and transmission management. But since a different transmission will be needed it won't matter anyway.

This swap will need a new K-member at the very least.

Just wondering. What are the goals of this project in order? Is "save money" at the top of the list?

If so, try this. Search car-part.com look for a salvage yard 4.6 from a 2003+ Grand Marquis, Town Car, or Crown Vic. I suspect there are plenty in the 500-800 range.

How does that compare to the budget for the OHV motor swap?

Also just wondering. Does your current 2002 4.6 have an exhaust valve "tick" from the #8 cylinder?

Do you have any more specs on the 351? What camshaft? what heads? It's not exactly a drop in swap, but it would be terrible to spend all the money and time to swap it in only to end up with a heavier car with roughly the same HP as the stock 4.6L.

You need a new k-member, which may require additional supporting mods, plus an adapter plate for bolting the mod transmission up to the Windsor motor. At the end of the day, your costs might be roughly what it would cost you to find a good 4.6L based motor and just add a supercharger on it.

Its not that im looking for power from this car even though that Windsor is pushing mid 4s to 500 horses its mostly the engines been sitting a while and it would mean alot to me to have it in my car the engine has a trans with it not sure what kind but i know its an auto and i have a 5 speed V6

Budget?

You'd need a k-member to start. The V6 T5 would bolt up to the 351 but I doubt it would last very long behind that sort of power. You'd really want a TKO or spme sort of aftermarket trans. You'd want an 8.8 axle, and maybe update the suspension a bit to at least GT stuff. Then it's exhaust and such. Wiring could be tricky but going to a carb with a manual trans might be the easiest way to do it.

Definitely not plug and play...but doable.

Budget isn't very large I'm a high school student and my car is dying so I'm gonna need it for school next year i want to do the work myself but as far as electrical my cousin is around frequently and is very good at that type of thing and can i get the K member custom made if i know someone who would do it for me?

Also i have a Gt sitting right behind it that the fuel system caught on fire and burned so suspension is at the ready

Try searching on car-part.com. Look for a front K-member (engine cradle) from a 1994-1995 Mustang GT. Make sure it comes from a 5.0 OHV V8. The V6 version won't work for this swap.
