I finally got my engine in and running!! The bottom end is just fresh, the heads are E7s that I ported and Thumper did the valve job (He does fantastic work) I'm running B cam w/1.7 cobra rockers. Heres were I ran into problems. Ive got the Crane spring, retainer and keeper kit and the retainer height is much higher than stock and the cobra rockers have rails that stradle the valve stem like the old rail rockers (these dont actually center the rocker) The prob I had was the the rails were contacting the retainers. So I ground off 1/8 in and no more contact. Intake is TFS street and TB is 65m FR. runs and sounds great. Unfortunatly it rained tonight and even at part throttle I was all over the road.

Bill, congrats on getting in and running. Was that CRANE kit the 44308-1 with the 1.94 installed height?

Damn rain!

bill, did you get your rings replaced and all your bearings? is the engine running any hotter than ussual? im wondering what normal things happen when you get exactly what you did done, becuase i am having the exact same thing done all the way down to the crane rockers... thanks!

Hey Indy, I replaced the main & rod bearings w/michigan bearings and just polished the crank. Sealed Power rings just honed bores. New Oilpump, FR oli pump drive shaft. B cam, FR roller lifters, FR pushrods, Cobra 1.7 bolt downs, FR timing chain set, Thumper 5 angle valve job, all felpro gaskets, TFS street Intake, FR 65mm TB, Kirban afpr, Mac shortys, Mac cai, Granatelli (Pro M)MAF, 180 stat 3 row radiator. Runs right on 185. Ive got the fuel pressure at 42 and still has a bit of lean surge at cruise but Ive still got stock 19# injectors. It runs fantastic but can tell theres still something more I'll jsut keep tuning. Hope yours turns out as good as mine.

Hey Mike, yes it is. The rain has let up today and Im going to have to do some tuning. It feels lean so I'm hoping I can just add some pressure. Ive still got the 19# injectors, but even lean its got some umph!

What exactly did you have to modify on the rocker. I am using the same kit and 1.72s.

rockers

Hey Mike, with the spring kit the installed height to much igher than stock and the part of the valve stem sticking out is reduced, and the Ford racing rockers which are made by Crane (are thier energizer series) and have rails on either side of the roller tip. I just ground a small amout of each rail. Just check when you get everything together that the rocker doesn't contact the retainer. I talked to crane and ws told that this is not normal but have heard of it.

I think I will be OK. Thanks Bill. How does the motor feel now. Have you tuned it yet. I LOVE A NEW MOTOR.

Hey Mike & Mike, yeah this weather is crazy. Of course with thecool dense air it feels much stronger. I messed around a little today and have the timing at 12 ( I installed cam 4 advanced ) and fuel pressure at 43psi and feels real strong. The road that leaves my house is a mile long and somebody has very nicely marked off a 1/8 mile. I tried on the way home tonight (no one on the road) and spinning badly in 1st and part of second crossed marker at about 80 or 82. I figure thats not bad.

Congrats on the engine. I got mine in about 3 weeks ago and just really got it running how I like last weekend. Has less than 250 miles on it.

If that surge was reduced or eliminated with more fuel pressure, then you definitely were running lean. Mine was lean with stock injectors and 52psi, but I also have a more demanding engine. With 24s and 42psi, this thing is a beast after 2500rpm, and I havent even gone past about 3300 yet.

I finally think I've come close tothe fuel pressure. I'm 45psi and its running real clean. Plugs jsut have a slight tan color almsot look like they havent been run at all. Looking forward to taking to the track and see what it does
