Last night I ordered the MBRP 3" catback exhaust in black finish. Should be here around Wednesday. I will hopefully get to installing it on Thursday. I'm pretty stoked, not going to lie. Just thought I would let the good Stangnet people know.

Outside 84Ttops awesome full build, haven't been seeing many posts about modding in this S550 forum(the tech side of things is practically flatlining). We need to get the ball rolling folks. Small mods, big mods, cheap mods, expensive mods...warranties be damned. We need to know whats good, bad or just overpriced.

It's been my experience that typically with newer cars and especially newer platforms like the S550 it will take some time to see a big swing in the modding of these cars. Sure there are a handful of people that come swinging from the gate but that is hardly the norm. Appearance mods typically happen first, ie wheels and tires, spoilers, hoods, stripes all items that leave a factory warranty intact. Personally I've voided my warranty within the first few hours of owning the car.... I do have a host of tools and resources at my disposal should I destroy something in the drivetrain. I have several other friends that have taken their S550's to similar levels as well

Lets see some pics of that exhaust once you have it all bolted up! The black finish should look sweet on your car!

I got the street pipes. Was tempted by the race pipes but I didn't want the constant screaming in my ear. My last car was very loud and made cruising a little less comfortable.

I completely understand why folks don't jump headlong into mods. I'm just messing with people. But I am anxious to see the new products on these cars and the results they produce. Other peoples experiences and opinions of the aftermarket give me a good bearing on what I should be doing next to mine. Plus its just plain fun to hear about the power increases and combinations that people can coax out of their rides.

I'll get some pics up when I get it together.

Put the pipes on yesterday. Install was a breeze. The stock exhaust is pretty hefty but realistically its eight foot of steel pipe, resonator and mufflers. Probably shouldn't be surprised by the weight. The sound is nice.

I heard another S550 roar down the road with some really loud pipes and it made me appreciate the fact that I got the street version instead of the race.

Outside the car, the exhaust sounds like a thumpy muscle car. The interior noise is noticeably higher but not necessarily in a bad way. I like that I can hear the new tone and a little more volume. It makes you feel like you have 435 hp instead of just knowing it from the sales brochure and adds to the driving experience. The interior noise is not intrusive. I can carry on a conversation at a normal volume without yelling or having to mess with radio volume. Cruising around on the highway, there is a little of what you could call drone, when the engine is under a bit of load or if you lugging the engine in too high a gear. Once you get on flat highway and just cruise it goes away and returns to a nice low hum.

I'll need to fiddle around with the tips a little more but all in all I am very pleased with the look of the black tips with the rest of the car being black. I would recommend this kit if anyone asked. Can't beat the price and the ease of installation, though the installation is going to be the same with any S550 kit. It is literally 10 bolts to take the stock exhaust off. Then the same ten bolts go back on, along with two new clamps and 2 new bolts that attach the tips for installing the new kit. That's it. For anyone who dreaded the job to put on "over the axle catbacks" of the older cars, these cars will not put up even a quarter of the fight for install.

House mod: Deck. 14k. None left for resonator delete, lol.

Anyway, I am waiting until after my first oil change is done since I have what sounds like an exhaust leak. Need to have them take care of that rather than have to do a header gasket because I changed anything related to exhaust.

I will be starting a build thread soon I'm getting rid of my motorcycle and using the money to pro charge my s550. I haven't decided on my supporting mods yet though.

I actually like the street version very much.
It got a civilized sound, and also you get the immense power gain.
I love it.

Not sure of the performance gains. I can tell you for sure that this system is much lighter than the stock system. I finally got a friend to drive it around in a parking lot for me to listen to it. The street pipes are really loud, in fact its hard to believe how quiet the car stays inside. If anyone has performance "before and afters" numbers with just this exhaust, I would love to see them.

I know a lot of people have claimed substantial gains with just a cat back exhaust. With that being said, The Magnaflow exhaust I installed on my car was worth 10 rwhp as compared to stock. I would imagine that most systems with straight though type muffles will yield comparable results.

I like what I'm hearing but was the Magnaflow exhaust the only thing you did prior to hitting the dyno and finding those results? I know you got a monster built already. Other additional mods (even minor) might have have altered the results.

The car was completely stock when we dynoed it. Heck it wasn't even two hours after it left the dealer lot and had only 65 miles on the clock. We dynoed the car, swapped the exhaust and re dynoed the car within the same 2 hour window so weather conditions were identical as well. The only modification with our first test was the exhaust, the blower install waited until the following week when the car rolled 200 miles

After removing the heavy stock system and feeling the heft of the resonator alone, I wouldn't doubt the increase in power. Wish I had a reasonably priced dyno shop around here. There are shops that will dyno but for the money, its not worth it for minor mods that don't require tunes.

Does that mean we are too cheap at only 85$ for three dyno pulls?
