new gears for automatic

Actually gear installs are not recommended for anyone but skilled mechanics so do not feel bad about that.

I highly recommend only using FRPP gears. You could get a quote from your dealer to install. It will be done right but they will charge top dollar. Or you could have a good local speed shop that definitely knows what they are doing do it.

Personally I would go with the Ford dealer.

The gears I am recommending are located here:

The MSRP is a little high, you may be able to get them cheaper than the price listed on that website.

Motive gears are just as good as FRPP, just cheaper. And definetly go with 4.10s or 4.30s. Just get on a local mustang forum and ask around to find someone who installs gears at a good price and does great work. You're also going to need a handheld tuner at the least to reset your shift points and correct the speedo for the gears.
I am going to have to disagree with you there man.

FRPP > all.

Also, 4.30s are too tall especially if he lives in an area that gets snow.

Prolly one of the best mods to do to an auto. 4.10s and a 93 oct tune will get you in to the 13s in an auto w/ stock tires. Mind you it will only be a 13.8 or 13.9 with a good launch. I got a 13.9 w/ stock tires and those are the only two thing I did to my car.

I just got 4.10's installed in my auto and I think they are great haven't really got on it all the way out of the hole but am going to tomorrow! and I am heading to the track on Wednesday hoping for a 13.8 or better But right now I don't like the way it shifts coming out of the hole normal acceleration it shifts too quick like below 2G in each gear. Cruising at 70 it tach's like 2,700 which isn't bad I only travel for like 30 minutes at a time. Over all I like the gears and would reccomend them for any auto!

I'm running OEM Ford 4.30 gears in my car. There really isn't any difference between factory Ford gears and FRPP gears. I've heard the FRPP gears are designed to have more "bend" so they won't break as easy, but I don't think you have to worry about that on anything other than an all out race vehicle.

Anyhow, I've been running them for a bit over a year now with no problems what so ever. I got mine from Randy Stinchcomb for a good price. Great guy to deal with.

If you can afford it, get a full beairng & seal kit, along with a bigger differential cover for increased fill capacity. I have one from Moser, and it works great. The stock fill capcity is 1.8qts, and most aftermarket girdles increase it to around 2.2-2.5qts. As for rear differnetial fluid, I recommend Amsoil full synthetic fluid. Thats what I'm using. You might want to also get a small bottle of Slip lock/friction modifier since you're using a slip-differential.

There isn't anything different about them at all. FRPP gears are are made in the same plant and on the same machines as factory installed gears. The 8.8 axle goes into more vehicles than just the Mustang.

 Where the hell did you hear that from? :rlaugh:

Back to the origional ? I'd go 4.10 or 4.30 in an auto.
