Alright let me start by saying, i know this has prolly been posted a billion times but all the threads seem to get jacked or side tracked so im sorry if its a broken record post. i joined this forum a few years back but my lack of activity must have gotten me booted. i have had a few fox bodys and i am in love with these cars but all my previous cars were 5 speeds and now i have stumbled upon a pretty clean AOD that i couldnt pass up. it has an aftermarket H pipe and flowmasters, 4 lug Cobra wheels but other then that its STOCK.. smog pump and all. im gonna start with the basic like ac delete n pulley kit then move on to the rear end n a C4 swap. Not building a track car by any means but will bring it to the track for a little weekend fun. right now my main question is the rear gear. i have always had a soft spot for the 3.73 in my T5 cars but im stumped with the auto. im thinking maybe 3.55?..idk..when done i should be around 325hp or so. its going to be a daily driver in the summer and i do like to drive like an a-hole from time to time. it will all be bolt on's,N/A, simple. im obviously not worried about fuel economy but i dont want to be reving 4 grand on the freeway either. also im interested in shifter ideas cause i want to be able to bang gears n what not. like i said im sorry for my ignorance but its my first auto trans v8 car so its new to me. and ideas, tips, advice and information will be greatly appreciated and taken seriously. thanks in advance.

this is by far my favorite forum on the web. it feels like a huge car club over flowing with great ideas and people

I'm not real familiar with autos, but my understanding is that the C4 does not have an overdrive. I assume this is the reason for the 3.55's? I think you will be disappointed with an auto and 3.55's if you are use to a 5spd and 3.73's. Most auto guys go with a 4.10 for performance.

What would be awesome is if you swap in an AODE. Much stronger than the AOD, retain overdrive, and you could put 4.11's in the rear and have a good launch but not be revving to 4k on the highway due to the overdrive.

And thats why i posted this, im not familiar with the AODE. ill have too look into it cause i want the 4.10s for the quick response plus i like to powerslide(alot) wich is harder to do without a clutch. i really appreciate the response.

*RangerJoe: yea in my head it made sense to use a 3.55 to somewhat compensate for loosing O/D..but now that i really think about it, the slight gear change wouldnt equal it out..lol.

put a decent shift kit or a silver fox valve body in the aod and a set of 3.73's. It will make it a different car.

She can drive a standard shift. quite well to be honest but she wants to come out for the test n tunes and be able to run it down the track. thats why i say she prefers the auto.
shes not afraid of it atall she just knows she will be faster in it cause she dont have to shift. mind you were both in our early 20's and before we met she knew nothing about racing or fast cars..shes digs it now

A good shift kit or aftermarket valve body makes the AOD much better in these cars.
But if it's going to see some considerable amount of track time, go with the C4. Less shifts = faster times. That's why a lot of guys run powerglides (that and they're almost bullet proof)

Did you miss the part where the girlfriend may get the car? I doubt she will appreciate a non-overdrive car with 4:10 or 3:90 gears. The highway RPM will drive her nuts.

Isn't the AODE the same as the AOD but electronically controlled? Sorry to hijack, just curious. IMO, eff the girl, and throw in a t-5 or t-56 and enjoy your car!

i'm a 3.73 guy with a c4 all day long. imo if you start really modding the car and intend on racing it a little you will run out of gear far before the 1320. If i could talk you into keeping the aod talk to freddy brown trans in new york. they do aod's for randy seward's car in Tennessee. he drives his car to nmra and last year drove over 2000 miles to a true street race averaged 8's in the quarter and drove it home.
