Hello, I am new to the forum, I have have looked around and seen lots of great information. I just picked up a 93 LX covertable in good shape. It has low milage (54,000) and runs well. I wanted to say Hi but here are a few Questions anyway.

1) I have heard that the 93's had some ignition problems, so I wanted to ask if there is a easy way for me to know if mine has been replaced with the approved recall part.

2) The car does not idle well until I run it for a while. Very unresponsive for the first minutes is theis a problem with the mass air flow sensor?

Thanks

First off, welcome to Stangnet.

For the ignition problem, you can call a local Ford dealer and give them the VIN and they could tell you if the ignition switch had been replaced in the recall. I don't remember the recall number, but if you do a search I know I have seen it on here before.

For the idle issue, i would start by checking the "Surging Idle Checklist" thread on here for some guidance.

Best of Luck

Welcome. Good info on the ignition switch issue. It takes about 30 minutes to replace anyhow, so it's no biggie.

It sounds like a really clean ride if this is your biggest concern.

And that's 30 minutes only if you're blindfolded and asleep.

Welcome from another 93 LX vert owner.

First, they didn't have an "ignition problem". They, along with hundreds of thousands of other Fords, were covered under a recall to replace the ignition switch due to a fire risk. As previously stated, call your local dealer with the VIN and they can tell you if the recall has been performed on your car. Most likely it has, but if it hasn't it will be done for free.

Second, one quick and easy thing to try to fix your idle problem is to clean the inside of the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. It's the cylindrical thing at a 45-degree angle on the front side of the throttle body. Unplug the connector from the bottom and remove the two screws holding it on. Then douche it out with a large amount of brake cleaner. Let it dry then reinstall. Doing this cured my poor cold-start performance. The inside gets carboned up and the brake cleaner will dissolve it.

Or a guy with a new stang who isn't familiar with the procedure. That said, I still probably spent that much time on mine the first time. I tend to go slow and inspect other items in the area. I find that the mantra in Saleen 0679's sig is a good one.

Wow, Thanks everyone for the welcomes and quick replies. I look forward to having a lot of summer fun with my stang. Thanks Wythors, for the idle answer, I'll try that tomorrow.

I always thought the LX 5.0 Fox body was really a classic look and now I have one. I will put some pictures out soon. Its in good shape, except I will be replacing most if not all of the weatherstripping. This car sat oput side a lot. I'm not crazy about the color and will probadly consider repainting this winter, its the kalypso green color. But this summer will be about minnor engine mods that I've seen mentioned here like Altenator, and maybe air flow. Thanks a lot for the help.

I went to the ford website and entered my VIN number and it came back with, "No outstanding recalls with this car" so I guess I'm good.
