Just thought I'd introduce myself, I currently have a 02 Cougar (which I baught solely based on looks, last time I do that, that thing is sloooow). Even though i've only had it 2 years i'm very tempted to trade it in for a 05 Mustang, probably the v6 model cause I don't think I could afford a GT.

OH, and how much HP does the v6 have now? I've seen 200, 208 and 210.. is there an official number yet?

I've seen 202 to add to your list...

the new 4.0 SOHC has been in the Ranger now for a few years and in the Explorer for even longer... The Ranger has 207 listed and the new Explorer is listed with 210.... so I'd guess right in there.

I looked up the order guide just for fun. Here is what it lists:
208 HP / 240 FT.LB

It should be a pretty good engine for the Stang, I know from experience that the 4.0 SOHC is a great engine, it breaths better, and has a lot better top end than the current V6

Welcome aboard. Im fairly new myself but I think you'll find some good people on this forum. Personally I would seriously consider the trade you're thinking about. Even in a v6 the new stang is a greatly improved vehicle.

Um, if you read his post one more time he said it will have 202 hp. I think you meant to quote my post, but hey its ok everyone makes mistakes sometimes including your 202 quote. This is outdated info

You no doubt have your information from the article here:
Article
That article is dated April 10 and shows the V6 output at 202 and 235

This is the order guide released by Ford on or around May 22 has updated those figures to what I said. SEE: Ford Order Guide

Go "Engine Horsepower and Torque" settings and you will find 208 and 240Therefore since Ford has release updated info, wich could be re-rated tomorrow if they want to.

As of May 22 to now the new 2004 V6 has 208 hp.
More is better right?

In one place in the Order Guide that you posted a link to, it says 208. In two other places, it says 200.

So there.

It's actually interesting to note that there are several errors in the Order Guide -- in one place I noticed a zero instead of the letter O, in the word INTERIOR. Doh!

On a serious note: Yes I saw the same type-o you are referring too. Also they do refer to it a couple of times as a "200hp" engine, as did many articles in regards to the previous model we know to have 198. I think it is close enough to Ford that they round off when referring to it, generally speaking, for some reason. An example would be this, "New for '05, the Mustang receives a 200hp engine and 3.30 gears to help get every bit of thoroughbred performance for the dollar." On the specs page it would then list exactly 208 or 202 (Wichever you want to use) and the actual axle ratio is 3.31. You get what I'm getting at with this.
However if it was a type-o to list 208 240 I would think it would be just one digit in one of the listings like 208 listed once and 202 listed the other time. Anyway you get what I'm talking about. The listing in the article may be a type-o as well.

On a lighter note, The reality is I simply wanted to get back at him for smarting off a bit with the large colored text etc.

Haha, you guys are awesome
I don't personally care what the exact number is, my car now has 88hp so ANY new stang I buy will be way more than enough, I could care less what the number is, when people ask me I'll say "lots" and then I'll prove it to them by taking them for a ride. Works for me

While the cougar is rated at 170 hp, I know how you feel. I have the sluggish ATX version, which is rediculously slower than the MTX, like 2 seconds 0-60 slower. It's 0-60 is in the 9's..

In all honesty JSSuper455, I read your post about the updated info (208 hp, etc)

Then I read where numenor27 said the 05 v6 will have 202 hp

It was only after reading C_Murphy state...the new one I have heard has 202 HP!...that I decided to post in large text!

It seemed like he missed your post about 208 hp, as well as Numenor27's post about 202 hp.

So I wasn't "smarting off" to you or Numenor27...I was yelling to C_Murphy because it seemed his hearing aid needed a fresh enegizer.

I can't believe we're arguing about the horsepower of the V6... really, how many of us care about that, since most of us will be getting the GT anyway...

No Hairy actually this is good info/dialog, because as the specs build up for the V-6, so to will the specs increase for the GT. Stangnet sucks (in a sense) because members usually put-down others comments. That's why http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showforum=7 is a better site. Because the more info the better. And according to Ford Motor Co, more folks will be buying the V-6. No disrespect to you Hairy.

Over the last 5 years around 60% of Mustang sales have been V6's.

However for 2005 Ford is anticipating even more V6's. If you look at the indroduction page to the 2005 ordering guide, Ford is recomending that the dealers order V6s as 68% of their inventory.

DOH! If they keep going with this trend it'll end up with as much power as the current 2V 4.6

sajawebb, I meant no put down or anything negative by my response. I was up late last night with the flu and was looking for something fun to comment on. I was only messing around a little to keep my mind occupied
