New HDR pics...

Took 3 pics on a tripod of different exposures and layered them together in Photomatix.
Looks pretty cool man. Now your challenge (if you choose to accept it) is to make nice HDR shots like that with your car in motion! That would be my new background for sure.

I'm using a Canon Rebel XSi DSLR. Its an amazing camera for the price, and I highly recommend it. I've only had it for like a week and a half and I've already taken over 500 pics...and I've had class for a week during that time so that eats away at the time as well.

No need for a good camera. To do this, you take 3 or 4 different exposures a few stops a part. Then use Photomatix to generate the tonemapping. You can also use photoshop to create the different exposures to put into Photomatix.

Looks good Mike, a little over done for my taste, but they are a blast to play with.
Im still addicted to the HDRs and really dont shoot anything but HDRs anymore.
If you really look at them you can see that the tonemapping has caused the exposure to be alittle off, (the white balance isnt right as it appears gray to me) but they still look cool. Tonemapping takes time and you will only get better the more you shoot and play. LOL

Thanks man. Yea, I just got this camera for Christmas so I've been playing with it. Taking good pictures isn't really as difficult for me as the tonemapping is. Again, I think I just need more practice. I took way more shots of my car, but I think the tripod moved a little bit when some wind came because the layers of pictures were slightly off when I uploaded them into Photomatix.

Thanks man! Yea, my buddy is a professional and has tens of thousands of dollars in equipment so his pics always come out way better...but I'm getting there....slowly...

yeah, i'm sure you'll improve w/ time/practice. a buddy has the same camera as i do and a slightly better lense, but his pics are always phenomenal, especially compared to mine, lol.
Yea man, it's just practice. My buddy and I have the same camera as well, and we got a DVD that is specific to the camera and it goes through basically every function on the camera. It has helped me so much to get really good exposure. Out of all the pics I've taken with the camera in the last 3 weeks I've had it, i think I've only shot maybe 10 pictures in auto mode...and that's cause I was too drunk.

Just don't get stuck in the mindset that the equipment makes the photos. It's easy to do when you get all caught up in it.
Agreed, but an SLR certainly makes it a lot easier, and a the pictures are far better.

Yeah, you definitely need an SLR for anything you want to eventually print and you need all those controls (and lens changes). I think if I ever get the stang running, I'll set out on a mission for action shots. Becuase you CAN do the tonemapping off a single image, it would make for some interesting pictures. I still want to build some kind of external body mount for the camera . . .
