Hi, I'm new here and I recently with a buddy of mine acquired a 67 mustang 289 that was stroked to a 302. It did not run due to no alternator/water pump. We just recently got it to run. My main question was what can i do to increase power substantially. We have thoughts of supercharging, but for now we do not want to do any forced induction. I would like to know what parts you think would raise the power, new heads? exhaust? headers, etc. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated because we are only in highschool and have limited knowledge. Thank you in advance...

A decent hyd flat, AFR quality heads, RPM intake etc . . . has consistently put down 270 rwhp+. A solid flat will raise this number as well as how high you are willing to take the RPMs. Basically you are looking at a 13.0 car with some knowledge on how to pick off the shelf parts. Throw a 125 shot and run deep into the 11s.

just remember to match the cam, intake, heads, and headers, as well as the carb to the rpm range the engine will spend most of its time in. for street engines, the rpm range you want to build the power in is the 1000-5500 rpm range. a fat torque curve will make the car feel better than a high horsepower number.

I can't wait to read the next thread about how bad you blew your motor.

:( Sorry. :(

:ZipIt:

The guy has made two posts and this is what you give him for help? At least Lmans typically sarcastic comment was helpful :D

Anyways, do a search you'll find lots of info on this site. The parts I have put together have gotten me to 13.5 and I had some problems with a leaking head gasket bleeding compression and over heating that day. If your going to super charge it just make sure the bottem end is stout and don't get greedy with the psi. Same with the giggle juice. Just do a lot of research.

I probably seem fairly uneducated in this subject, and I am, but I'm not just trying to get a high horsepower number, I just want to build a small block mustang that is fast and fun on the street, but can still run the strip.
