New to the forum. I have a 2001 Bullitt, long term would like to build a max effort N/A 2v utilizing the Bullitts unique manifold. Hoping to get lots of info on here for what to do to achieve 400-450hp naturally aspirated

I understand this is the easy logical, and financially efficient way to make power on these cars, believe me you aren't the first to tell me. I just think there will be something more fun and fulfilling about putting time and effort into building the engine up, and still having it look mostly stock under the hood, but be able to at least almost keep up with newer coyotes.

Oh man, keeping up with a Coyote with bolt-ons on a modular 281 and even a great car like a Bullitt...I am telling you its only going to get done with a supercharger or turbo without spending a fortune. 03-04 Terminator is a pulley and tune away from burying one but again that is forced induction.

I have to agree. I know you got your heart set on N/A but with a 450HP 2V you're talking about a high-effort, high-rpm combo that's not going to be very impressive from stop light to stop light (although, it should make a lot of cool noise).

--or--

Slap one of these on there and keep [all] the street manners and push your current torque and HP numbers, [up] by 200 hp/tq:

1999-2004 4.6L RWHP GAINS

+160 hp (65%) @ 9 PSI
+204 hp (83%) @ 10 PSI
+262 hp (+107%) @ 14 PSI

You keep all your factory stuff including gears.

For tuner kit, you need the SC kit, fuel pump(s), injectors, and a tune.

They can be hard to get these days so, if you ever decide to go this route, be sure to call them about availability.

Now, if you're dead set on doing an N/A combo, I would do something other than a 2V.

If E85 is readily available, then a 11 or 12:1 compression engine with serious camshafts, long tube headers and getting the stock intake extruded honed would be a must. Larger T-body, MAF, fuel injectors as well. And lets not forget the cylinder heads. A TFS head would fit the bill. If no E85, then it is going to be more difficult, just because compression would have to be dropped a point or so. Either way, it is going to get expensive, and the short block has not even been mentioned yet.
If you have the $ then do it. It would be a cool project. Make a build thread.

Back in the day I had a 01' Bullitt. Bone stock, with 500 miles on it, I managed a 14.08 @ 98 mph. in the 1/4 mile.

Yes this is what i wanna get into. Building the motor for the love of the game and just to have the experience of doing it. Been looking at 5.0 stroker kits, tfs heads or atleast cnc ported heads of some kind, big cams. I want all the good noises and a redline around 7k too. When the time comes for me to start throwing parts on this car there will be a build thread for sure. For now im still working on fixing what's broken before I start doing the fun bits. Bought the car 2 years ago with 175k miles on it, shes needed some fixings. Gotta eat the beans before you get to the ice cream ya know

Here's one from when I first got the car, and 2 of how she sits now. Do have new 19 inch saleen wheels going on this winter, just had them stripped for refinishing.

I would put a PD blower on a Bullitt, all day, every day. lol

I wish I could sit you down in one to drive for an afternoon. It's intoxicating.

If I was going to add boost, a KB would be my absolute #1 pick love everything about them. Im just too set on using this bullitt manifold. Did briefly consider a centrifugal supercharger at one point. But just leaned more towards the actual engine building idea rather than adding to the engine. Idk, im really being honest when I say not 1 person has agreed with me on this idea yet and maybe thats why I want to do it so bad

Again comes back to keeping the 4.6 2v bullitt intake. My dad has a 19 bullitt with the gen 3 coyote, ported manifold and TB, 2 inch long tube and x pipe set up. So if I want the aggressive sound and driving experience of that, I can go get his out of the garage. Im wanting to go same build route as that basically, just with what this car was born with, as he did with the coyote. Pic of our 2 cars for reference

You have to figure though; A lot of the dudes on this forum have been watching folks try to make something out of a two valve for 25 years.

After the job was done and many hours and dollars were spent, the conclusion was usually the same:

"it's a great engine. Way more power than stock and feels really nice! I just wish I had put all this effort into a 4v."

Hell, even the 99-02 4V respond very well to boost. The 3 valves too, for that matter.

Not trying to change your mind (ok, I am ) but if you want to build something up from scratch, maybe [start] with a motor that is mostly 'drop-in' and build [that one] up. Today's aftermarket ECUs make this easier than ever before.
