If you are getting a aftermarket fiberglass hood put it on your car as is and drive around with it on for a couple of weeks. DO NOT HAVE IT PAINTED BEFORE YOU DO THIS most of the horror stories come from people that get a hood that is not fully cured and when it gets on their car in a hot day and shrinks they think they got screwed.

If it is going to shirk it is going to shink. Getting it painted wont make a difference. I have never heard of a bad Cervini's hood, i think she is alright.-Mike

I rather just bring it in then since I don't trust them to take it of without hacking up something else. Which hood did you get?

Yeah it is really noticable I will get some pictures of my cervinis 4 inch cowl posted this morning. When the heat from the engine in the summer starts baking the underside of the hood it will shrink and look like a ripples in the top even the best hoods will do this to some extent. Believe me she will be alot happier if she drives it for a while as is when it gets warm.

Ho, about e-mail notification, you have to go in yours profile options and uncheck the options witch allow you to receive thoses e-mails.

Oh OK, I thought it was new hood. I have to replace my hood because I have a big hole in the middle where my shaker used to be. I am starting to get a little worried about this shrinking hood problem now, though.
I'm sorry, I meant that I don't get them. I have it checked for instant notification. I haven't been receiving emails for months now.
Nobody should be afraid of a fiberglass hood shrinking. It is normal for aftermarket fiberglass parts to shrink simply because they are not 100% cured when they are shipped to you. Just put it on and drive it for a while you will be much happier a year later when it doesnt look like a wave pool like mine, besides that it is free.
Put in on about a week before you get it painted , and make sure they block sand it atleast 6 times before the paint it , and you will have no problems and it will look GREAT , key is making sure its fitted to the car good with the heat and all and blocking it to get all the fiberglass ripples out
Thanx fellas!!! I'll put it on a week or so before the paint job just to be safe! They'll need it a while anyway to paint the hood and blend the fenders, no rush however long it takes for a good paint job. I know they do good paint cause they repainted my L after my accident and it looked awesome! I'll be sure to post before and after pics when its all said and done.

It is VERY noticible. I have a Ford Cobra R Hood and I had it painted and installed. Fiberglass needs to heated before its painted. A painted fiberglass part that is heated after it is painted will experience something called "Print Through". The fiber grain in the fiberglass will show right through in the paint. It will look like the you painted over raw fibers.It doesnt matter if the hood is smooth as glass BEFORE its painted. This happens in some fiberglass parts that are heated after they are painted. On steel it makes no difference. I worked in a pro custom shop that did exotics and hot rods. We did everything by the book. Luckily there was enough clear on the hood that we sanded and buffed the print out. I would recommend that you install the hood and run it for a minimum of 2 weeks. Let the engine idle for 30 minutes after you drive the car. The hood will pick up the most heat rise if the car is sitting in park idling.

Mine was baked for a day so doing it for an hour wont do anything besides that if you take it to a good body shop that has someone with experiance they will ask you if you have put it on the car yet most smart shops wont even touch it until it is fully cured.Fallguy said:
