New Intake Cover & Playing w/LED's

Just got my new intake cover from MMR put on this afternoon. I must say I really like the looks for $40.00. I also decided to play with some LED light strips I made up. I placed them at the hood openings and wired them into my parking/signal lights. I'm still deciding if I like them or not. They remind me of the hood lights in the 67 stang I used to own. Well here they are, tell me what you think. I like the way the red light reflects off the Paxton.

not quite. check your state DOT laws. I'm pretty sure red and blue lights are off limits on the road.

Actually, yellow is legal for the front and red is legal for the rear. I know my Crown Vic has 4 yellow lights in the front: 2 turn signals, 2 sidemarkers.

The S197 only has "2" yellow lights in the front, although there are 4 bulbs (2 turn, 2 sidemarkers). You could probably get away with having yellow LEDs behind the hood scoops. Official vehicles get to use red, blue, and/or green anywhere on the vehicle.

+1 in TX red on the front of the car is strictly for police/emergency vehicles.

FMVSS actually has guidelines for the color of lights for the front/rear and side of the vehicles.

IIRC:

Front -
2x White headlights
2x White or Yellow Foglights
Amber turn signals / sidemarkers
No Red at all

Front / Side-
Yellow

Rear-
Red for brake lights
Red or yellow for turn signals/hazards
White for reverse

Rear / Side-
Red

No green or blue is allowed on the exterior of non-emergency vehicles. The military is exempt from these regulations.

So, for the hoodscoop LEDs, you could probably run White or Amber to stay street legal and make it look "unique".

I personally don't like the lights in the hood scoop either... But as long as you like it, that's all that really matters.

That being said, I'd be willing to bet you'll eventually get pulled over having those on at night. Quite a few people here have complained about being pulled over for their center fog lights, and having officers think that they are high beams, or otherwise illegal. If you like them, run them until you have an issue... but I wouldn't be overly surprised if you get pulled over/cited for the lights being there, regardless of color. Same concept as the underbody neons; the color doesn't matter, it is the fact that they are there and distracting to others.

Well i added a switch to them the other day so I can turn them off. I really just added them for show. I dont have them on while I'm driving. I'm still a little undecided on them though, I'll see if they grow on me if not there gone. Also would you paint the GT on the cover red or leave it black? Here's a few more pics.

That does look pretty cool... Really unique! And the best thing is you have something underneath your hood to justify them
