So I have a 99 v6 mustang and I'm trying to replace my clutch. Two questions. How many bolts hold the bell housing to the engine block? And second question. If it is indeed 6 then how can I get the transmission to break free from engine block
Yep so everything is out aftermarket h pipe, starter, transmission member, and drive shaft. It's being held by a transmission jack with a strap. I removed 6 bolts (not including the start ones cause that's out already). For whatever reason it doesn't want to budge. I tried going all the way up and then down and still nothing. Tomorrow I'm going to try lowering it slightly and going side to side with it.
I'm just wondering if there are six bolts that hold it to the engine minus the starter
Have you sprayed any penetrating oil around the dowel pins?
Are you supporting the weight of both the motor and the transmission?
I have done the job twice but honestly I can remember how many bolts there are. I can say:
The dowel pins do get stuck and can be a PIA to free up.
That sometimes allowing the weight of the transmission and motor to hang can "pinch" the units together making it difficult to separate.
Don't force it too much as it is possible to break the transmission and/or the motor mounting bosses.
Recommend supporting the weight of the motor AND the transmission. Gently rock from side to side. See if you can get any movement. When it start to separate, spray more penetrating oil around the dowel pins.
No haven't sprayed anything and was going to support engine as well. The two up on very top are out as well. And I wasn't going to crank on it just trying to get it loose
I just did my transmission for the first time and i had to wiggle the living hell out of it. Curse words were yelled. Loudly lol.
But when i went to put the trans back on.. i read about pushing the clutch and it slides on super easier. Maybe it will help in your case of getting it off as well? I actually wedged a board between the seat and clutch pedal because single life
