New owner, Need more HP. (94 GT)

Hello,

This is my first post and i have only been a Mustang owner for about a month. I purchased a 1994 Mustang GT, auto trans. 4 weeks ago and to me the car is not quick enough. I have stored it for the winter and over the next 6 - 7 months i would like to build my knowledge on how to improve the HP and it's speed off the line. The only current mod to it is the air intake that the previous owner put on, they did not change the air flow sensor.

I'm hoping I could hear what others who own 94 - 95's have done to increase there times and HP. If possible I would like to get it up to 400hp in approx 2-3 years.

first off welcome to Stangnet!
second, try the search button, it works wonders!

what kind of performance do you want? drag strip car, street car, or road race car?

basically though i would recommend getting aluminum heads, a cam, and a good intake. that will net you about 300 to the wheels. from there you can either do a stroker 331/347 to get 400 with tweaking or you can turbo/supercharge it.

I'd make it more efficient with stuff like tc & shift kit

If you are talking 400FWHP, I am over that with a 306 and Nitrous and still have good daily drivability. Without Nitrous I am about 350HP. If my significant other would have worked with me more, I would have gone 347 or higher C.I. earlier.

Like said above, state your goals and budget.

My goal is a low 13sec car that is 100% streetable that anyone can drive.

My favorite mods (of all of them) on my auto 'vert were cobra brakes, subframes, modded 4R70W trans w/ Edge stall convertor, Nitto drag radials and gears. (in that order)

Was talking the other day though, if I had to do it all again I'd do an all around tuneup, then the brakes, subframes, a poweradder of some sort and perhaps better tires and call it a day.

Welcome!

Plenty of info here on how to make power in many different ways. You're gonna hear it often, but there really is a wealth of information on here that can be found by searching for it. Try searching just this section of the forum for specific 94/95 stuff.

More power is great, but don't forget about:

Suspension
Brakes
General Maintenance

Since you've only got one mod, consider these cheaper mods for more enjoyment out of your stang:

Subframe Connectors
Aftermarket mid-pipe
Catback Exhaust
Gears
Short Shifter

There's a ton of other stuff, but that seems to be fairly popular. By all means, make sure the tune-up stuff is good and that all fluids are in good shape.

Haha, nah man just giving him a good starting place - all those mods would be an excellent match for his goals and would be cheap/easy to do at the start of his mods so that he gets good enjoyment of what he already has.

More info on if he wants a drag car, autocrosser or just a general all around street car would net him some great replies from the guys here.

here is a simple way that i like, use the short block you have and put a trick flow top end on it from summit racing trick flow head and intake and a trick flow stage -1 cam and put a 410 gear in the back and a good 2500-3000 rpm stall converter you will also need shotie 1 5/8 headers off road H pipe and 2 chamber flowmaster cat-back, 70 milimetter throttle body and 75-80 mass air, and latter some drag radials so you can get going, to go faster than that you would have to pull the motor and put a stroker kit in it or spray nitros oxide in it, the way i told you , could always add a nice Vortech super charger latter if you want more horsepower, with what i first told you should get you 300 rear wheel horse power, now crank horsepower would be more, you could opt for a custom cam from ed curtis

I think he just summed up about 90 threads in one short paragraph. And this post is spot on what I would recommend!! With the only difference being do 3.73's or 390's so that you don't run out of hwy gear (not) racing those high speed quikies on the bway.

What I'm really looking for out of the car is a daily driver and also a Hwy car (70MPH tops) that won't have a problem taking any stock Mustang or Camaro. It's pretty bad when a Nissan Maxima or any Dodge Hemi can walk all over yeah. I don't want to wonder if I can beat the car beside me.... I'd rather know I can!

As for price range. What ever I have to do in order to accomplish my goals. Like I said originally I plan on doing this over 2 - 3 Years so for the large expenses it won;'t hurt as much.

you are asking a lot considering the 99- stangs had 260fwhp and the 05- stangs are hitting the 300fwhp mark. aside from that, as you said, there are maximas, altimas, and magnums nearing the 300hp mark right ot of the box. we are at a huge disadvantage and have a lot to make up if you look at it form that perspecive. a sound h/c/i combo is a good start. you may want to contact ed curtis at fti and discuss your goals with him. he has built many outstanding combos.

i looked into starting a 302 or 351w based stroker to go in mine (after i get out of college of course) i believe coasthigh.com has alot of good quality kits and already built blocks that should be able to give you a good push to your goals of a 400rwhp dailey driver
