New owner of 2001 Bullitt #5307

This is my first Mustang so I'm learning the car. Been doing a lot of searching for info and so far it's been a lot of help. Bought the car last week and so far love it. Previous owner(s) put in a stage 2 clutch, 3:73 gears, Mach 1 chin spoiler, fog lights, CAI. It has an offroad x-pipe and no cats so it's very loud...gets a bit raspy at times. I'm in an area that requires cats for safety and emissions, so I plan to remedy and hopefully improve the tone while keeping it deep and kind of loud. It has a few other minor things that need to be addressed such as loose hood latch pull, loose gas tank door and the struts to keep the trunk open needing to be replaced.

I'm looking for advice in a couple areas and will also post these in the appropriate SN95 forums but interested in all opinions/advice. First is the Mach 460 stereo. Currently no head unit in the car so I haven't heard the system. My plan was to replace/upgrade the speakers etc when I get the head unit and would love to hear feedback and suggestions from those of you who have done this. I gotta believe the Mach 460 system is in need of an upgrade due to age and I might as well do it. I'm not a stereo nut, just want a setup that sounds decent.

The second piece of advice or experience I'm looking for has to do with wheel size and tires. I'm sure this kind of thing has been asked a ton. The Bullitt stock is lowered 3/4" from the GT. To me, the 245/45/17's look really small on the car. I've been debating whether to keep 17" wheels and do a staggered 275/35/17 front with 315/30/17 in back or go with an 18" wheel to reduce the space in the wheel well. 315's for the rear in 18" wheels seem to be rare and expensive, so would most likely go 265 or 275/35/18 front and 295/30/18 back. Anyone with any experience, opinions, advice, or pictures here would be greatly appreciated!

Stereo: Pull what's left of that Mach junk out and put in something you want to listen too. You don't need to get crazy to get good sound in an SN. Fill all of the factory speaker holes with some decent speakers that run well at 30ish Watts RMS. Make sure that you have enough small amplifiers to keep them well driven. Select a head unit with the features that you want and you are done. You don't need huge amplifiers and a boom box sliding around in the back to get good tunes. Not suggesting that this is what you had in mind but I see it a LOT.

Suspension: Subframe connectors first, then pick your tire and wheel. Bullitts look awesome staggered with a deep dish out back but that's just me. Progressive rate springs purchased with your desired drop. Remember to leave yourself enough ground clearance.

I replaced the crappy off brand head unit the seller put in my '02 with a Sony with Crutchfield's help and I think it sounds great(as do OP who have heard it and done it too) for under a hundred bucks. It is a Mustang with Dynomax Straight through mufflers and I can still make your ears ring at full volume and adjust the equalizer to my tastes. Agreed a complete make over would be a great idea too, just a viable alternative I think.
Can't help with the wheels 'cause I love the Bullitt Style and yes deep dish look mean.

Appreciate the feedback! A couple people I know have suggested I get the FR500 wheels, but I prefer the Bullitts. Whichever way I go the wheels are going to stay Bullitts and I agree - definitely deep dish in the back!
