new paint job?

My Zinc Yellow paint job, over the last two months, has seriously gone downhill. The corners of the trunk that meet near the quarter panels have spiderweb cracks. Road debris/ rock chips have taken a major toll on my front bumper. And the doors, near where it meets the window, are turning this faded black color. I need a factory color respray. How much would a basic, single tone, non custom paint job cost?

Depends on the quality you want. It could be anywhere from $300-$8,000. If you want a decent paint job on the cheap, prep the car for paint yourself. Sand it, & remove all the trim yourself. Then take it over to maaco & purchase there top of the line paint job. I dont think it will cost more than $1500 for that & it should yield decent results as long as you prep it right.

I will call them on my lunch break today. I looked on their website - I believe their top of the line is called the "signature" paint job. I'd like to go with a factory color if possibly. Wonder if they could spray the striping on the car too, so I don't have to deal with the vinyl fade (a hail storm that brought down, literally, baseball sized hail, has really really hurt my paint job in some areas (left door , left side of trank/quarter panel) No body damage, just light chips in the paint down to the white base.

Called today, $999.99 for "Signature" paint job - *top of the line* - 50 dollars extra for non-original paint color. Heavy grit sanding/wet sanding to get out any major chips/scratches etc. 75 dollars for door jambs. WILL NOT PAINT UNDER HOOD. Will also paint dual strips on. Heres the kicker - they said I would need to leave my car there for 2 weeks. So add in an extra $150 per week for rental car.
Total cost, somewhere around $1500.00 - I would go in and talk to the painter and let him know that if it looks good when it's done, I'll flip HIM a $100 bill cash for a good job. That's how you make sure it comes out better than the rest.

around 1500 is a good deal for a quality job and materials. I helped paint my bro's supra and you'd have to pay me a chit load more than that to do an entire car.

When i had my 5.0 painted, it cost me $4500. But it was black and I wanted it perfect so they stripped off all the molding and weatherstripping and trim and put on new stuff and went over every inch of the body. I was plenty happy when I got the car back. It was like glass.

Maaco does actually have decent work with their upper level jobs. It's their cheap $300 paint job that everyone gets and the paint chips off 6 months later that gives them a bad rep.

When it comes to paint..you get what you pay for.

If you want it to come out nice you need to flip $100 to the guy prepping the car not the painter since thats where MAACO screws up. The prep people probably don't make as much money as the painter and they probably prep it in 30 minutes for him. It doesn't matter how good the painter is, if the prep job was rushed then it will look like ****. My uncle works at a body shop and he does prepping, and since its a high end shop he spends hours if not days prepping a car for the painter.

I'll flip each of them $100 lol. I asked if they would let me prep it myself and they said that would void the 5yr warranty against bubbles, peeling, flakes, etc. So - at least they plan on "standing by their work". I'm only 24 yrs old and I can't even rent a rental car in Florida! So I don't know what the hell to do lol. I may have to bust out my fake ID from 9th grade and begin referring to myself as Mr. Rapalanders again......well it worked at one point in time guys!

Your ID will need to match your credit card which they will keep the number of in case of damages i think. Besides i doubt you can prep the car anyways, it takea a lot of experience in sanding and in bondo for dents ect.

The fake ID was a joke BTW. Any sort of monetary fraud and I lose my job + licensing ASAP. Bondo wouldn't really be an issue with the car. My body is straight as an arrow, the hail really beat the S*** out of the paint on the whole left side of the car. It looks awesome from about 10 feet but as you close in you see the chips where it went down to the base white coat. I hit it with the Zinc Yellow touch up paint - but that's only temp. I put in some pictures of my 100% bone stock ON THE OUTSIDE/INSIDE Sleeper. It's a Spring Feature package. Has been outfitted with the Bullit Suspension package + FRPP C Springs , the only "visible" exterior mods.

im sure you can rent a car at the age of 24..they will just add a age restriction fee. I was able to rent a car in orlando when I was 21 but they added a fee for 21-24 year old drivers.

I don't know how to put up bigger pictures, so they're all thumbnails. I'm still but a n00blet on this forum. I also included a picture of my second most important hobby - and proof that I can do external/bodywork(as they have crash from time to time hehe) - my World War 2 Nitromethanol powered R/C planes. The Zero has a 4 stroke engine with a HOT CAM. The rest are regular 2 strokes. Wingspans from 6.5 feet to 5 feet. Made from Balsa wood.

If you actually get it painted by maaco make sure you post the results because if it works out I will probably go that route too. my paint isnt looking that good either, hell i got chips in the rear quarter panels.

You should still be able to rent a car they will just require you to pay for extra insurance, its around $25. you could also try bumming rides to work. see if there is someone you work with that lives close to you, offer to buy them a tank of gas or split the gas bill each week unless you have to drive a long way to work it will be alot cheaper then renting a car.

I think that Maaco is the best bet. Maaco has come a very long way in doing paint work on cars and I think that they do excellent quality work. They do a lot of higher end more expensive cars.
