New PIE aux adaptor

My two cents:

1_Instead of soldering the two wires that go to the top center power connector, as illustrated in "Idiot’s Guide to the FRD04-AUX Adaptor", I would suggest using "quick splices". You can find them at your local auto parts store or Home Depot. They make the job a 1000 times easier.

Here's a pic so you know what you're looking for if you're nor familar (Note: If I'm not mistaken I believe you want 14 gauge)



2_If you don't have the "MyColor" gauge-cluster feature, you may want to consider poping out the dummy plate in the upper left hand corner of your center console and installing a female stereo mini jack.



You can find them at Radio Shack or a music store. Just drill an 1/4" or so hole in the console plate, screw down the stereo mini jack, and wire the backside of the jack to two (2) RCA male ends that you connect to the PIE input. It will make the install look a lot more professional than having a wire hanging out of your dash.

3_If you're installing the PIE specifically for an iPod, keep this is mind. The headphone jack has a preamp which can add distortion. For the best sound consider getting a Pocket Dock with line-level out. They're dog-cheap and totally cool: http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-fw.html

The potentiometer on the PIE (or any like device for that matter) are intended to boost the signal of a line-level device. Headphone jacks just aren't line-level.

I'm not saying you can't run an iPod into the PIE via the headphone jack, but it's usually an up hill battle -- you have to adjust the volume on the iPod, then adjust the level on the PIE, then tweak the volume on your stereo, etc., etc., etc.

Remember just a suggestion. And its not like you can't use the headphone jack in the interim and if becomes a hassle try getting a line-out later.
