Took the car to track for test n tune at the 1/4. I like it a lot better, despite the fact that it doesn't hook as well as the 1/8th track. Anyways mods are in sig, no SFCS, only suspension mod is kyb struts n shocks (no real benefit.) Tires were falken ziex 512s, 245/50/16s on all corners. Pressure was 25, tried 20 (no gain) with 45 up front. Started out with a 13.3 @ 104. Worked my way to consistantly running 13.1-13.2s at 106mph. Here is the cap of my best run.

r/t: .237 (one of the worst of the night)
60': 2.099
330' 5.648
1/8: 8.549
mph 85.21
1000': --------
1/4: 13.156
mph 106.75

For street tires, I feel thats about all the car had in it. She really needs a higher launch on stickys to get up in the powerband. I was semi disappointed in the trap speed though. I was hoping for 108mph, but I'll have to settle. Wish I brought my timing gun and fuel pressure gauge to play around with. My best 1/8th time was an 8.4, and my overall best trap speed was almost 107mph. Next go around will be with the addition of subframe connectors and some drag radials. All in all, slightly disappointed, but it was my first time back since august with a new setup so I'm not pissed. Anyways let me know what you think.

If it doesn't go 12s on tires I'll probably take the car home on a rollback.

I was hoping for an elusive 12.9 with kickass launch but it didn't happen. The mph still isn't what I expected, but I'm shifting off the stock tach too. When I let the gears wind out a few hundred more rpm thats when my mph picked up.

Found a better time slip, made several runs that night and looked at em when I got back.

R/T: .052
60' 2.029
330': 5.579
1/8: 8.497
MPH 84.70
1000': ------
1/4: 13.112
MPH 106.59

Still wanting more. I'll probably add the underdrive pulleys and play with the timing some more next time out. 12's are coming hell or high water.

I agree, your mph is a bit on the low side for those mods.

Thats what I was thinking. I do have a problem with some excessive blowby though, so fixing that along with a bigger t/b, better induction, and maybe a little more aggressive timing should get me where I need to be. I won't settle for 106mph, that is too low for where I need to be. However, I drove the living snot out of the car, powershifted every gear and 106.8 is all I could muster out of it. Going to try it again with a stiffened chassis, and some ugprades next go round. I expect 108mph at the very least.

You are running what I ran when I first took it out and as you know we have very similar combos. I didn't change things and I got quicker. You kind of 'learn' the combo and you start getting faster.

You don't need 'better' induction, what you got is fine:)

Some drag radials will help you out for sure!

Good Luck buddy!

On street tires, with that setup i'd be looking for around 112-115.

Not at full weight you won't. Full accessories (which I prefer) makes it difficult as well, along with stock style suspension.

A custom cam does not mean it was 'ground' for strickly performance like those 112-115mph guys.

Custom cams are 'custom' for what the buyer wanted from the seller. A custom cam doesn't mean 'aggressive cam.'

90_red_lx - You know I ran 87.31mph in the 1/8th with a 8.25 E.T. with 16-17* timing, with 39psi (vac. off & plugged). No dyno tune/time, with full accessories (minus smog), and aluminum heads with subframes on Nitto Drag Radials with no burnout (1.95 60ft.).

Very badly wornout lowering springs as well. My cam will not trap 112-115mph, the cam was not ground for that.

Car was ran at near full weight. Nothing was deleted, just a quarter tank of gas during the runs. I agree the combo needs to learn a little more, but several passes were made and it was a slew of 13.1s as the best. 2.0 60's are killing me though. Right now my current tune is 16* timing and 38psi fuel pressure vac off. I may take the timing back up and see what she does. What would help out a lot right now though is a friggen shift light or tach. Kinda sucks guessing what the motor is turning to know where to shift her at.

Yeah I was running with stock tach and I know the feeling:)

As I shifted higher (again, stock tach) my mph got slower...6,000+ rpm for example was a bit too high for my cam's powerband.

Hmm I may try dropping the shift point next time and try. I thought that was what picked it up, but who knows. Based on feel and the rough powerband ed gave me I figured she'd pull to the rev limiter. Your cam is fairly close to myn so I'll give it a shot.

I think your cam's powerband was 200 or 400 rpm above mine wasn't it. Getting more rpm might help yours like you were doing and you could be right for your combo:nice:

Many think since one has a 'custom cam' that it is supposed to run X mph. Ed told me himself that mine (with all my specs I gave him about my car and how I want to drive it - 110% daily driver) could trap 110 mph with some tuning and good driving. I'm pretty close to the equivalent of 110mph and there are a lot of little things I could do to help but it runs what I wanted it to run and drives like I wanted it drive:)

If other stangers think I should run 115mph, they are wrong. That isn't what my cam was ground for or car was 'prepped' for.

3400-6200 is my powerband I believe. 6200 is right not sure on the low number. Like you said yours could possibly run 110mph with some tuning. I plan on heading to the dyno and having the timing and fuel pressure adjusted for more power until I get the bottle, then shes getting a full blown tune. Could just be your tune is closer to what it needs to be than myn is, along with the combo of still learning the car.

Sorry to tell ya but I think 106 mph for your combo sucks man. mine trapped 106.6 last time out and it isnt running that well. Im also only running ported ford irons and a C&L 73 maf. I do have a much better suspension setup but mine is still an oem ford shortblock with over 200k on it. If I were you I would start playing with your timing and FP and hope for more.

Like said theres more in the car. I've had this car running about a month now, it still has a few quirks, and I have yet to get as confident driving it as I was beforehand. Theres more in the car, part in the tune, part in the driver, and a big part in traction.

EDIT: Theres at least a couple more mph to be added with better traction. The car just will not hook at all with a launch that can keep it in the powerband. The falkens served me well pre h/c but now it's time for some traction.
