I've only owned fox body so I'm new to the sn-95 style of stangs. Anyways, I'm looking at buying a '95 cobra over the net. I want make sure it's really a cobra, so could somebody decode my vin number ? I know its white with tan/beige interior. I had the seller take a pic of it, check it out. The seller ( an old guy in his 60's) is selling it after his son died a couple months ago. I want to make sure I'm not getting screwed I have not seen any pics of the car yet, just the guys ad and the vin pic I ask him to take.

Thanks for the help stang net

Well...

The 5th through 7th digits indicate body type:

P40 = 2-door Base Mustang Coupe
P42 = 2-door GT Coupe
P47 = 2-door Cobra Coupe

So, according to this VIN, the car is a GT not a Cobra.

But... not so fast,

This VIN is still a mystery to me, particularly the 8th digit, which indicates the engine type. The 8th digit in this guys VIN is "C".

I've never seen that engine code for a '95 Mustang before! Here are the three engine codes I show in Ford reference material for '95 Mustang engines:

Engine code "4" = 3.8L V8

Engine code "T" = 5.0L HO V8

Engine code "D" = 5.0L Cobra V8

I've done some web searches for Mustang VIN decoders and didn't get any hits on a "C" engine code for a '95 Mustang. I only found one Ford parts site that listed it as a 5.8L Cobra-R engine! Is that possible? Has this guy stumbled on one of 250 '95 Cobra-Rs???

Anybody with a '95 Cobra-R out there to confirm their VIN engine code? Can anybody positively identify a '95 Mustang engine code "C"?

Hmmm....I did some research, too. According to this website link above and some others the VIN engine code C is for the 95 Cobra R. If that car you (302efi) are looking at is a Cobra R you better latch on to it. Just don't let that guy know what it is, hehe.

Dude, you best be working out a deal on that car! If you don't, then let me know how to contact them. I would love to have one of those. Good luck on the purchase. That's a one of a kind deal right there. I had been trying to find out what color that paint code ZR was because they only came in White. Looks like the CARFAX took care of all of the guessing.

Actually you can see that the door jamb is white around the left and top left of the sticker. Once again, good find.

Did some of the R's come with blue racing stripes?

There was what i believe to be an Cobra R at the dyno shop i go too.. It had no rear seat, no insolation, no radio... The wife of the guy who owned it was making him have all the interior stuff put back in, and he was having the motor redone... I believe he was putting in a hell of supercharger.

It was sorta funny because it was in true racing form from the factory and yet it wasn't fast enough and the wife didn't think it was comfortable enough or something.

OMG-OMG-OMG...You gotta be kidding me, You mean to tell me the car I'm thinking about buying is a Cobra R ???????????????????????????????????? The guy I'm buying it from has no idea!!! I know its white with tan/beige interior. The car has real low miles, 17,543 to be exact. He says its in real good shape, been under a car cover since the loss of his son. I would be flying to Chicago to pick it and drive it back so I hope its a good road car. I'm buying this car as a daily driver because I just had a baby girl a couple months ago and I need something to drive everyday, Damn, I guess I know how to pick'em

Heres the part that hurts...Hes only asking 10k for it !!!

lol..I'd chill on the details or you may not get it. Maybe you need to buy this one and then look for another different car for a daily driver.

302efi,

Well, looks like it might be true! Great find if it is! You lucky dog!

One thing though; not a good daily driver for Florida since a '95 Cobra-R has no A/C !!!

Hey man looks like you found quite a steal! Here's something just for reference: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6236&item=2444657382 hope that helps! Buy that car as soon as you can, and then never touch it.

OK,

Now the '95 Cobra R mystery deepens!!!

The '95 Cobra R for sale on e-Bay (see link in 67stang390's post above) IS the SAME CAR!

The VINs are identical: 1FALP42C1SF213570

So... what's up? Who really owns/is selling the car that 302efi has a picture of the door sticker from?

Thats the kind of deal that is too good to be true... someone that owns a car thats 1 of what, 250? probably less than that because im sure some were totaled, and he doesn't know it is a cobra R... factory 351!!!, omg... awesome, i mean, buy it for 10K, sell it for 40K! but thats me, i would rather have a car that i can drive all the time over a car taht is rare but just sits there. BTW, that car should have no back seat, cloth v6 seats, no radio, no sound deadening, no fog lights, no a/c, no power windows, BFG Comp T/A's (if they are stock tires), if it has any of those parts, then someone has been messin with it... but all i can say is Cobra R wether it be a 93/95/or 00
