hey im knew to the forums, i just traded my 95 z28 camaro for a 88 mustang gt foxbody. i got a great deal, my z28 needed 3000 worth of body work and some other work the foxbody, headers, pulleys ,high performance water pump, cold air intake up to the mass air, brand new 3:73 rear. but its got a oil leak the front main seal can anybody lend me some info on how to do this and how hard it is?

it is pretty simple, just time consuming. Get a harmonic balancer puller and then just start removing everything that is between you and the timing cover. Also you will need the gasket kit which I believe is 12 bucks or something.

Remove:

fan shroud, belt, fan, lower crank pulley (4 bolts), then the harmonic balancer. There is one big bolt holding on the harmonic balancer (24 or 25mm socket). Then use the puller and take of the balancer. Then take the water pump off and remover the two screws up top of the timing cover and then on the bottom of the timing cover there are 4 bolts holding the timing cover to the oil pan, remove those. In order to get the two bolts up top you might have to remove the thermostat housing. It would probably be smart to drain most of the coolant so you keep it all clean and off of the ground.

Then clean the surface really well both on the back of the timing cover and the oil pan and block. (this is really important from keeping it from leaking again.) Then put the little rubber gasket in the timing cover base and then place a small bead of RTV sealant on the bottom of the timing cover. (all this is in your instruction with the gasket kit). Then put the timing cover gasket on the block and prepare for the most strenous part of the whole thing (at least for me). You have to get the timing cover back on with none of the gaskets moving. Slide the cover on and bolt everything back together.

I probably forgot somethings, but it is in the instructions and is fairly easy. Just make sure you clean the surface that you apply the gasket to.

Good Luck
