new transmission. wont go in gear!

I just bought a rebuilt world class transmission off of ebay and i put it in today but when i try to put it in gear it just wont go in. I can only put it in 1,2 gear with the engine off but when i start it it wont go in any gears. If i have it in 1st gear with the clutch in when i hit the starter it tries to pull the car forward even with the clutch in. Any body have an idea whats wrong here.

Sounds like you might have a clutch cable/ adjustment problem. Check your cable or quadrant

Agreed. Dial slack out if you have any (it sounds like you have a bunch, if it's a clutch linkage issue).

Got go with everyone else on this one. Sounds like your clutch isn't working correctly.

I knew this guy once... that thought his input shaft was aligned properly, bolted his tranny to his bellhousing, started his car and then things actually DID line up and he had the same problem until he got under there and tightened his bellhousing to his tranny, and adjusted his clutch cable. He's just lucky he didn't do any real damage.
