Dark, I know the feeling. My very first drag strip tuning session in my monte carlo ss netted me a similar experience.
I was at Byron Dragway and Mike Moran was testing a new body on his car. My 11.17 against his 6.98 at 200mph pass made me feel slow. Until then I had been a street racer. My first honest track experience wasn't all that enjoyable.
I couldn't hear my car idle, let alone feel anything as we left the line. I was a little discouraged.
It was kinda funny too, cause he did a John Force style burnout to about the 100 ft mark on the track, So I went with him so as to not be out done and the track personnel were pissed at me. As is at most tracks, nearly all street cars can do their burnout with room to spare and stop short of staging.
Bottom line, I couldn't hear a thing, he posted his time and had the chute out and I was turning onto the return road while I was at half track.
