NEWBIE HERE AND I NEED HELP!!!

I'm very hesitant to drive my car in the streets so I've had it parked for several days now for these reasons:

I was going about 70 MPH on the freeway and I slowed down a bit to exit. As I slowed down, my car died out of nowhere and I had to pull off to the side (fortunately I made it safely). I waited for a few seconds on a full stop. I had no idea what happened, my car just died while it was still moving. At this point, I decided to turn the ignition back on and drove off hoping it wouldn't die again.

There had been a number of occasions where this happened. On a similar note, just the other morning, I started the car and it just instantly died. I tried turning the ignition back on a few times and it just died (RPM went up, then came back to 0). The thing is, it started for a few seconds then the RPM dropped back to 0. I came back to it later that day, but this time it turned on just fine. I didn't drive it though.

So anyone have an idea what's wrong with my car? Has this ever happened to you? I would appreciate any kind of input.

First replace the PCV and grommet. Its on the valve cover on the passenger side. Then clean the IAC. It's right in front of the plenum. If that doesnt work, buy a new IAC.

Sounds like maybe a PATS module problem. Does the security light on the dash flash quickly when this happens?

Sounds like the experience I had when my IAC was dirty. I just cleaned it, and it is good now. I think I'll buy a new one soon. That was like 2 years ago.

i had that happen to me and it was a connector on near the battery that powered the EEC , it would die then fire up. Then one day it would just crank and not fire up, had it towed to the dealer then got it back 2 days later...

The cranking problems sounds like the IAC to me.
It's located right in front of the plenum View attachment 446248

i think ill go ahead and do this and also check the vacuum leaks.. also where can i get a digital code reader??

Any auto parts store should have the equipment to pull codes for you.

well guys... thanks for all your help..

OK well I will start messing around with my car today and hopefully I could fix the problem.. here’s a list of what people suggested I should look into.. any input on any of these guys???.. any input would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advanced..

vehical speed sensor
solinoid
coil
TFI module
fuel pump
Vacuum leak
Dirty IAC
Dirty MAF
Intake leak

or another fuel or ignition related component.

I'll also make a trip to autozone to pull the codes..

I'll post updates...

yea, just hit the inside of the IAC with some carb cleaner, although only a temporary fix the car should at least stay running

ok guys, I hooked up the OBD II and it didn't give me any codes. It said "PASS"..

how are your battery connections?

Ok, this is gonna sound simple and stupid, but I had the same problem. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes seems to have solved it, because it hasn't happened in about 4 months now (knocking on wood).

I doubt the VSS (vehicle speed sensor).

Just clean the IAC and see if that fixes your problem
