NeWbIe lookin for some advice

honestly since you have a job, I would buy a 98 (maybe even a 98 kewbra?) and save money for mods.

get the PI intake and cams first.. then just save up for the big money mod... blower. It would take you awhile so you would have had some time behind the wheel. And with a blower anything can be fast :nice:

But hell.. my son is only 5 right now. We have 12 years till he can drive but this Steeda will be waiting on him if he does well in school. I will make it a point to have him a bad ass ride ready.

The first thing you should think about is Insurance, being under 24-26 and having a musclecar under your name is actually like being raped, your bill would end up being close to 5K a year, call up your insurance company and see how much your rate would be for a GT and Cobra

a cobra was only 35 a month more for me when i was 17. the non supercharged kind lol.:nice:

anything other than a GT (ie Bullitt, Mach, Cobra) would be wasted on a kid (no offense). A GT is going to be a good mod car down the road AND IF he wrecks it or whatever, the community as a whole won't feel much of a loss as compared to a limmited edition stang.

Sounds like you need a 99+ bro. Do yourself a favor though, start the mods on the suspension side first before adding HP to it since this is your first car.

get a cobra. The insurance is cheeper on a cobra then a gt cause more kids buy gts and wreck them. put the cobra in your moms name and put you as the secondary driver. it will be hella cheep. you get a lot more power for the mods with a cobra. ive had 2 gts and now a bullitt and am now debating on buying a 03 cobra motor to modify or building mine. 4v heads are the ****.

Put the crack pipe down and step away from the mustang....

Using your idea, a GT would be cheaper under his moms name for insurance than a Cobra...

Yeah a pre-03 cobra is a good mod car, I won't deny that.... you get more TQ with a GT modded though :D

my friend was between buying a 98 cobra with 64000 miles and a 02 gt with 54000. the insurance on the cobra was 25 a month cheeper. im sure it would be the same for his mother. didnt you put yourself on the cheapest car in the house when you were a kid? i did. maybe you should have.

Well the entire suspension is pretty much crap stock so pick the front or the back and get started modding. Anyways, you should decide if you want straight line takeoffs or sweet curves action. It will make a difference in the type of suspension components...

Actually my first car I was on my own insurance, it was a '67 GT coupe. I wasn't allowed to have a liscense until I had a job, and I had to pay for my first car (well to be fair, half of it), AND I had to do all the work with my step-dad to mod/restore it. I paid my own gas as well.

Also for your example.... if you compared a 98 cobra and a 98 GT then I would bow down to you and recind my earlier remark. However when you take a newer GT and compare insurance to an older Cobra... duh...

Hang around here a bit longer before opening your mouth. Only I am allowed to say stupid **** this week... maybe next year will be your turn.

HOSS, as allready mentioned you need to figure out what you're going to want the car to do. If its gonna be mostly street then I'd lean towards auto-x components. If its gonna be mostly track (which it doesn't appear that you will be going that way) then go for drag stuff... However I'm going to guess that its going to be a DD and see the track 1 day out of the month IF... in which case mod the front end suspension up for auto-x-ish stuff and leave the stock rear springs alone... (OK heres the disclaimer, I've only recently started even glancing at the suspension stuff, so I'm WAY far from a guru here)

The most important thing is that you don't buy Grannatelli :flag:

WHATS YALLS OPINIONS ON XHAUST SETTUPS?

Hoss, do yourself & your family a favor and stick with a GT. Everyone when they are young & inexperienced has gotten a little frisky behind the wheel when their friends are around and either hit something or had a hella scare. I seriously doubt you want this to happen behind the wheel of supercharged Cobra. A SC Cobra is just way too much temptation for the unexperienced driver.

If you have to have a Mustang, be smart & get a GT or an older Cobra,at the most. Don't get a Mach. Don't get a SC Cobra.

GT's are a lot of fun & there are so many mods out there it's ridiculous. Insurance costs and all the other crap people are talking about doesn't mean a difference if you have the car wrapped around a telephone pole.

Be safe & keep the racing on the track!
