Newbie question

People have posted before about the computer learning your driving style when you first get the car. This is supposedly for the A/F mixture(?) So, you are supposed to "drive it like you stole it" and the car will perform better in the future. Does anyone know how long the process takes for the comp. to learn this?

Yes!! Drive it like you stole it. As for how long back in the day it Ford PCM's 40 key cycles to learn new inputs so it's for at least that long.

I have read the 40 key cycles thing some where else too (can't remember where). If you need that little extra, just reflash it and your starting a new!

When you say reflash, I guess that means to set to default? If so, that's good! So, it's not permanent.

What about engine break-in issues? From what I understand, it's really done at the factory. True?

A reflash could be you just reloading the same tune. What most people do is change the oil in the first few thousand miles or so. As far as driving, you're good. My salesman said there was no break in period, just drive it normal.
If the 40 key thing is correct, I never get near that Maybe that is why I haven't noticed any difference since March when I loaded the tune. I may drive civil for a day, but no longer than that...

Yeah from what I've been told by nearly everyone, local peeps, Stangnet, other forums, dealership, techs etc., just drive the car "normally".

What I also heard is that after a certain amount of miles, the car "wakes up". Something about if you dyno it with 2000 miles stock and then again at 10,000 miles stock you'll see an increase in HP just from the mileage. That's prob just BS....

+1 on reflashing the tune. However, if it still has the stock tune, then just disconnect the battery cable for at least 15 minutes. That does the same thing.

There are different schools of thought on how to drive the car in the 1st 1000 miles(drive it aggressively right off the lot, drive it conservatively, do not redline it, etc.).
But the one thing that everyone pretty much agrees that you should not do is drive at steady speeds and rpms for long periods, e.g., setting the cruise control while on a trip.
