newbie stang questions

Hey,

I don't quite yet have myself a mustang, but while I wait for the right one to come along, i'm trying to learn some stuff about what i'm getting myself into..

From what i've read in a recent thread, gears are one of the best first mods.. So i'm just curious, at what cruising RPM does the gas mileage on the 5.0's drop off considerably? What kind of RPM would I be turning at ~60mph with a 3.73 gear?


Also, being that I spent part of my time as a 'honda guy', high rpms are what I know & love (sortof..haha). Say I were to find an appropriate set of heads & cam, what kind of RPM can the stock bottom end reliably take? Any higher than the stock redline?

I'd imagine the sub 6k nature of the 302 would do something for engine longevity as well...I know that my 8.1k rpm runs in the teg are starting to take it's toll on the valvetrain, for one.


It's definetly been neat so far learning about the mustang drivetrain vs. what i've been used too....huuugge differences, just can't wait to get my hands on one
