Newbie with a few questions

Hey guys, I have an 01 Mustang GT completely stock with 8,000 miles on it and I'm just now getting to the point where I can finally start driving/modifing it out. I just order SLP 1's from pro shopper and was wondering if I "had" to cut the factory pipes to get them off. I would really rather not do that. Can I just drop the axle/shocks/sway bar in the rear to get them to come out? Just wondering if anyone had any tips or shortcuts besides "cutting" the factory pipes to get em out. Also, I was thinking about lowering it a little as well. Been heavily leaning towards the eibach pro kit system with the springs and struts matched up from eibach. Anyone have anything bad to say about the pro kit struts? I eventually want to put the 1.7L Kenne Bell S/C on it as well...does anyone know where I can buy that blower setup that will actually let me do the install? Thanks guys.

Dan

It's alot more work if you are not going to cut the stock exhaust off. It's quite easy if you just cut it off behind the mufflers. As far as eibach goes, nobody really has much good to say about them. Have fun with the mods! :nice:

Yeah, I'd say cut the exhaust off too. It can always be welded back together if you do it right. You can drop the axle to get it out...but it'll be alot of work.

You wanna drop your car, get HR springs...with some Bilstein shocks. Everyone with that combo seems pretty darn happy.

Don't know much about the KB other than it rocks! Good luck and have fun!

Eibach pro kit is fine, people complain about the other Eibach kits sagging, (ones that lower more). You can go to www.kennebell.net and read up on the Kb 1.7 as well as purchase to install yourself. Good luck, BTW, if you will be happy with 400 rwhp, (stock block) the 1.7 is fine, but if you are like most of us, you will want more power down the road and the KB 2.2 has room to grow, if and when you upgrade your internals, you can up the boost and obtain much higher hp numbers.

Thanks guys...back in black...yeah I knew that most didn't like the sportlines...I don't want to slam it to the ground...I have had incredible results from eibach prokit springs on my ZX2 with tokico struts (factory S/R) I thought about the HR sports, but they lower even lower than the eibach pro's do...and I definately don't want to buy CC plates if I don't have to. Yeah I've looked at them on Kenne bell's site, but places like modular powerhouse won't just sell them, they have to install them. I was looking at the two different kits the vortec mongoose kit and the 1.7L 9psi intercooled KB kit. I would really like to have the KB kit. My goal is just to get a hair over 400 rwhp. I am not looking to totally rebuild the engine especially when I bought the car new with 1 mile on it and have only put 8000 on it. That's also why I don't want to cut exhaust cause it is still brand new! Also, what's up with not having coil packs or plug wires on my car? Looks as if they have the direct ignition firing to each plug running into the main electrical harness? Thanks again

Dan

I live in Cali so when i changed my exhaust i knew iud have to eventually put the stock exhaust back on, yet i still cut it. It's really not worth it to drop the axel. W/ springs, mustang and eiback lowering havent mixed well from what iv seen. Shocks go Bilstein or Takico they are choice

The Prokit lowers 1.5 inches all around, while the H&R Sports lower 1.5 out back and 1.6 up front. So its really not that much more of a difference, it just gives you the raked look. I love my H&R's and have had no problems.

Yeah only 8,000 miles which I put all those miles on it the first 2 years of ownership....yesterday is the first time in like nearly 4 years that I've had insurance on it and out on the road! As far as the raked look...I don't really care for that...I want it to sit level, but only a little lower. So you guys think that I should get springs only and then like bilstein HD shocks/struts? I don't think I'm going to worry about axle wrap shocks or should I? I will probably go ahead and lower axle anyways, but just trying to find out if anyone's done that before and had some insight as to what they did when they did it. I work on/rebuild cars all the time, so lowering the axle to get the exhaust out is easy enough. I was just wondering if I could just loosen the lower shock mount and that would allow rear to fall far enough to give me the clearance I need. Does anyone know why they show aftermarket spark plug wires 9mm for my 4.6L when my car doesn't have plug wires or coil packs?

Dan

if you want to pull the shocks you can get it out but cutting is faster. it is up to you really.

I would not run eibach. they are just as much as bilstein and I don't think they are as nice.

if you like the eibach stuff I would run h&R sports with bilstein hd's. It is about the same money.

if serious about the KB 1.7L you should also add LCA's and subframes IMO.

If you have the stock catback I would just cut it off because it's honestly
worthless. If you are going to lower your car I would look into the H&R Sport
springs and Bilstein struts and shocks people seem to be very happy with that
combo. If you are serious about getting a Kennebell supercharger I would go
to there site to get a heads up on the install if you plan on installing it yourself.

Why do want to save that junky stock exhaust. It would alot of work to drop the axle. Yes it may still be next to new but if you were going to try to sell it (on ebay for example) you might get 50 bucks if you are lucky. Is that worth it. Just the hassel of finding someone to buy is to much for me

Thanks guys, but the main reason why I am not going to cut the exhaust is because if for some reason I don't like the new SLP's then I can merely change back to original exhaust until I find something different. Also, if I were to ever sell the car down the road to buy the new 07 Shelby, which has crossed my mind quite a few times, then I can put stock exhaust back on it, then sell the SLP's and make more money doing it that way. I never even planned on selling stock exhaust nor do I want to....just keeping my options open. Why destroy a perfectly good exhaust when there are ways of avoiding it...right? Why add more welds to an already restrictive stock exhaust when you don't have to. Also, on the bilsteins...I'm assuming you all are referring to the HD series right? I have also heard that I am supposed to buy fox body shocks for my 01? Is that right? Is is because of length? If people are buying the HR's because of ride, I would prefer my ride to be stiff rather than be too soft and lean too much. What about steeda springs? Ford racing C springs? Koni shocks? Thanks again.
