hey everyone.new to the board and to mustangs,Bought my first mustang today.its an 88 lx coupe.it needs a paint job but the motor felt strong.around 100k on the clock.it came with 16'ponys.i got it for 2200.do yu guys think i got a good, fair, ripped off kinda deal?i know enough about mustangs to see that the coupe was the only body style i liked.

When my cousin looked it over(works at a ford dealer) he said it was fine but that the only drawback to the car was it was a non maf car.it was speed density,.what are te drawbacks to it not being maf car and he said something about a conversion?thanks.

If the car is in good shape you got a great deal. Being a non-MAF car won't be an issue until you start doing some real engine mods. You will need a different computer, and MAF sensor as well as harnesses to do the MAF conversion. Is this car going to be a daily driver? Emmissions an issue? Do you plan on a supercharger/turbo? If not I would just go carbed.

I know me and my cousin thought he got a pretty good deal on a 90 gt that supposedly had a 347 and "big" cam...blah blah...(before I knew anything about them)...and after owning it just over a year...he has been to the track twice...all the other weeks were filled with troubles...(bad tranny, motor seized, overheating, etc...)

And the owner said it has 119,000 on it (guage says 19,000)...but I'm willing to bet the way the car was that it was 219,000

Sounds like you got a deal...runs strong...thats always a plus...A maf conversion is around $300 bucks I believe...isn't to bad...and allows for you to get a nice H/C/I package going

That sounds like a pretty good price, don't waste your money on the conversion until you get ready to do more serious engine mods.
