Hi, my name is Justin I am 19 and am purchasing a 2006 Mustang V6 in Spring(no winters for this baby). My reasons for going the V6 route is that 10K more for a GT is just a lot of dough. For 10K I can make a V6 a pretty strong performer. But before purchasing what do I need to know about these cars? Pros, cons, what should I order etc. Thank you.

Justin

At your age, insurance is also a factor and the V6 will be a lot cheaper. Don't let people convince you that there's something wrong with the V6. It is a great car. So is the GT.
Ford sells more V6s. That's a simple fact. And not everyone who buys a V6 really wanted a GT.
We need to stop all this petty bickering. A Mustang is a Mustang.
Good luck with your purchase.
By the way, $6,000 is still a lot of money to a lot of people.

I have the Pony Package and love it. The car is more than just the grill. You get 17" tires, Traction control (that can be turned off, not to be confused with traction lock. No Limited slip differential on the V6s, not even the Pony package crapola ), GT inspired suspension (thicker sway bar in front, addition of a sway bar in the back :Word: ). I have a manual, which is A LOT of fun, but some people are very happy with their automatics. Take your time and learn what you are doing. Think twice, mod once.

Here are popular V6 specific mods:

Dual Exhaust
Limited Slip Differential

Generic Mustang Performance Mods:

Intakes
Tunes
Gears

Have fun exploring the site, there is a lot of knowledge in here.

Ok, cool, so I will opt for the Pony Package. My mod list that I will be doing are Roush 18" rims 275/18 tires, Auburn LSD, Procharger Stage 2, MAC exhaust. Thats what it will get when I get the car. Thanks alot.

Like they said the insurance is enough to go for the v6.

Maybe if you compare the price of a stripped down V-6 and to a nicely equipped GT you can get the 10K difference. I don't think there was that much of a difference in price when the new model came out, but the GT seems to have gotten a little more expensive with 2006. Total MSRP on mine was 29K, but I got it on X-Plan so that saved a couple grand. If I were 19, I wouldn't want to pay the insurance on a GT, though.

I am doing this in Canadian funds. The exact difference is $10,597. Price of the V6 efter taxes is $33136 with the Pony Package,Shaker 500 stereo, Interior Sport package, and the interior upgrade package and the leather trimmed seats. The GT is $43733 after taxes with the same options except the Pony Package and the Shaker 1000 stereo. That is a difference of $10597. So I am going the V6 route for sure.

Well, Well.... You appear to have been raised Mustang. Your mod list is :nice:... Welcome to the site Sport. You are going to fit in just fine. :Word:

Well imo the cost of some of those extra options is not worth the amount of money they want for it. some ppl got the cashola are fortunate.
As for stripped down, I would have bought my Mustang with No power options at all and no a/c if I could have but instead Ford opted to not give me a cigarette lighter. I don't smoke anyway but it would be nice to be able to burn bullet holes shut.

Even in Canadian $ you're fudging the #s, Shaker 1000 is a $1,295 USD upgrade over the Shaker 500 on a GT. So I'd guess it's more like $1,800 CDN after taxes.

That would reduce the difference to more like a $8,800.

Also the ISP and IUP are mutually exclusive, so your V6 can't have both of them. Perhaps you mean IUP & ICAP, except that ICAP is not available with the Pony Package. This is starting to sound like :bs:

looking @ US prices

V6 Premium with Pony, leather & IUP = $23,125 USD
GT Premium with IUP (includes leather) = $27,465 USD

Difference = $4,340 USD.

Assume 25% difference for CDN = $5,425 difference.

If you want a V6, fine. If a V6 is what you can afford, especialy when insurance is addded, fine too. Just don't throw around bogus prices for a GT with a lot more options to justify you decision.
