Hey everyone I'm new here...I'm Corey's (WANNA_BE_GT)'s girlfriend. I'm really interested in Mustangs but I can only drive an automatic so I'm trying to find a really cool one that isn't way too expensive. Also I just thought I would join this Stang Net thing cause Corey is on it all the time so I thought it looked interesting. Any good tips about buying a Mustang?

Welcome.

My only advice if you're looking at the 99-04 GT's is that you start from '01 but '02 is better.

01 1/2 is the year when Ford improved the interior and switched back to Romeo engines. It's really a tough call if an '01 MY is an early or late model until you're able to see the car in person and take note of the interior or pop the hood and look at the water pump design.

Of course, this probably is something Corey would have to help you with ...

My only real bit of advice is you would probbably enjoy a manual transmission better than an automatic. My mustang was my first manual, but after driving this I'll NEVER go back to an automatic unless I have to.

Learning to drive stick is easy, and only takes about a day. I taught my brother to drive my mustang in about 4 hours.
If you're driving a stang for work or in traffic all the time, then maybe you do want an auto, but anything else I'd reccomend a stick.

Ditto. I taught two people and it only took them an hour each to get it down. Getting a manual transmission is as much a part of the driving experience as actually owning a Mustang/Cobra

I have an 2002 V-6 vert and love it!!! I have never had so much fun owning a car before. Lots of fun things to do. The V-6 is really easy on the gas and also the auto is so easy to drive anywhere.

Thanks everyone...ya I'm kinda stuck on an auto right now cause I'm really nervous about driving a stick and also my dad just sold a really nice Mustang that was a stick that I could have had if I knew how to drive a stick so I think learning how to drive a stick now would just make me mad that I didn't get my dad's Mustang...

go with the auto, a V8 is preferrable of course.

just make sure you take Corey with ya, he will be a good resource to have handy!

We are going to be looking at a couple of GT's tomorrow. She seems to really like the dark grey or charcoal. The other option on the plate is the fusion SEL AWD V6. Only catch is if she bought the GT, for every mod I got for my car, I'd have to by her 2 to catch up to where I am now, but I think I can live with that

My first Mustang was a 2000 GT with automatic. The only mod I put on it was an aftermarket transmission cooler. They say the 4R70W transmissions are really stout and will last a long time if they don't heat up, hence the cooler. I thought about a shift kit but there are good and bad stories about those so I never did it. YOu can do a lot of mods to the 99-04 GT's to give you more power but if all you want is a nice Mustang with a little pep for passing cars on the way to the beach etc, an auto GT will work just fine. They are also killer at bracket racing on the strip cause no matter how I launched mine, it always came out 14.4 or 14.5 at 94-95 mph. An auto is also killer at burnout competitions lol....

One warning, once you get a V8, you'll want more power....

Welcome! Driving a stick is easy! Just floor it and dump the clutch! You'll start moving shortly afterwards Maybe cory can let you practice on his peace

Ya I could see wanting more power, I finally got to test drive one today and it was so awesome! It was sooooo fast compared to my 4-cylindar car. Hehe. Now I'm hooked.
