what kinda times to the 350 z's put down stock out of curiousity. My buddy just bought one. it looks like a nice car havnt had a chance to ride in it yet though.

Mid low 14's in the 1/4... in the 1/8th it's much worse... mid high 9's... but thats not a good test of a z... put him on a road course or watch him pull on the highway and it would be much more impressive. If you're pressurized it may not be impressive at all though...

how long did you guys run? Run long enough and that z is going to get you, it's just a mathematical fact...
All that would happen is that he would run out of gear. So freakin what? His car is faster nuff said. Who races much past a quarter mile anyway.

I disagree whitedevil, a z's strengths aren't contained in a quarter mile race. All he said was he raced one from a 30mph roll, he never said where he shut it down at. I'm guessing around 80ish... If he got the jump on the z and was a little bit ahead I could easily see a 1 car lead, but I'd bet money that z was catching up. I will refuse to believe his car with his listed mods is making 287fwhp. Possiblly the z driver sucked, but it's still an unrealistic situation and bogus information. Who races much beyond a quarter mile? I'd lay money down that most races go much further than a quarter mile. SCCA for one, and some dealerships I hear are giving away liscenses with their cars... How well do you think that stang will hold against the z he raced if they came outa a hairpin onto the straightaway and both cars were clipping 30? If you think the stangs going to hold a 1 car lead I got a bridge I'll sell you for a rockbottom price. All I wanted to point out was you have to look at the context of what the author was asking. Can most stangs hold off a z in a stop light race, yah, sure. What about quarter mile, probably... much more than that, no, not without a decent list of mods. He said he ran from 30, I asked how long did he run, if they only ran to 60 or 80, then getting the jump on a car can account for that is therefore unrealist... I wasn't looking for a flame, but the author asked an honest question, and a 30 mph roll with a mostly stock stang doesn't hold much water unless a lot of goofy variables were involved.

What does this have to do with racing, im not talking about taking both cars into a heated neck and neck road race. Im talking about a freakin drag race. The only thing that would happen is on the freeway the GT will run out of gear before the 350Z if that makes the Z faster then i guess thats your interpretation. I could throw some 3.27s in my GT and go race some high speed **** but i just dont see the point. Gearing is one thing and how fast a car is another, you can let your Car and Driver top speed numbers get you all confused about what car is faster.

I think you're ignorant, narrow minded and emotional. But think what you want, you're still wrong. Peace

Hey dude, whitestallion never said what speed they raced to. Your assuming 80.

And why bring up the road racing crap, the point of the the thread was a drag race.

I agree with everything whitedevil said.

We went up to 100, and honestly, he wasn't gaining any ground at all.

Edit: 3 honk race, and we took off almost exactly at the same time. If anyone had the jump, it would have been him, he went on the 3rd honk, I went a little bit after.

ok i found out they are suposed to have 285 or so hp and do 0-60 in 5.5 (i.e motortrend crappoa) i got to ride in it today and we did a short little race to about 60 or so against our other buddys 95 gt from a dead stop. pretty much dead even all the way up. seemed to me like a mid 14 secound car.

fastest zs with best drivers run mid 13s stock at 102 mph

and then there are tons of poeple in the 14s

just like with 99+ GTs its all about the driver, elevation and traction.

Driver being equal, a 350z should edge out a stock 99+ gt by a little.

they put 240+ to the wheels stock, have great gearing and can do 1.9s on stock tires in the 60"

well i'll add something since i raced one a while back, only mods since the race are headers/electric fan, we went from a 2nd gear roll (he was a really good driver, not that it matters much from a roll) but we were dead even in 2nd, through third he probaly pulled a car, and into 4th another car, probaly would of been closer from a stop, also i have a little track experiance so i'm sure i would of gotten him from a stop

your guys encounters sound like they wre with non drivers or autos.

get ready to come across a well running well driven one and get waxed if all you are bringing to the table is a few boltons
