I just got off the phone with the guy who built my transmission and he told me that it's possible that a 100 shot of nitrous could be the cause of my converter cracking? Is that even possible? I understand that it gains more pressure when it's hit, but you guys with the superchargers/turbos/ or that are spraying like me:

Have you ever heard of this or had this problem?!

It kinda seems like a load of to me...

Plus, I know that most of you guys that are spraying here are running the stock trans and haven't had a problem yet... Is it just me or do all mechanics love to blame nitrous as the cause of all problems?!

buddy of mine has a fairly hairy B.O.P. 400 in his 80 T/A that was a factory 301 and th350...he still has the factory th350 trans with a stall and put a 150shot on the 400 (cast pistons too ).

Well he pulled the studs out of the B&M verter with it... I could see the added force narfing up a ???-nable verter, if it was a good aftermarket unit I would be making some calls.

Nitrous is a shock power. So it is possible but you definetally don't hear about it very much.

Yeah, it's the new converter.. If worse comes to worse I have a stock converter that I can use for a while [I don't have $600 for a new converter atm]...

Update: He took it apart and says a seal broke and it needs a seal and bushing... So that's good

We'll see what it's gunna be tomorrow i guess

Do you have a brand name? Any 3,000 converter SHOULD have anti-ballooning plates in them. I don't think a small 100 shot would do anything to even a stock converter. I still have my stocker sitting in my garage. I ran the 125 shot on it and hit it from a dead idle.

If the converter cracked something was wrong with it. The nitrous might destroy the lockup clutch or one way clutch, but it should not crack the cover. Could be a fluke bad cover. Or the lockup clutch could have been fried rubbing metal to metal eating the cover thin. How much metal is in the transmission pan?
