Nitrous or Supercharger?

supercharger....

like someone else said you dont make boost until WOT (wide open throttle) so its good for daily drivers...

alot of guys here use a Cobra killer kit by T&J performance.... its the safest kit i know off and right now they havn't lost a motor.

you said you were going to forge your block... what componets are you going to use?

Get the supercharger, then the power is always there and you'll never have to refill bottles. And since your building the engine, you can always spray with the supercharger too.

expensive as $#!t though Since i'd want it done right, i'd take it to Jimmy (LaRocca). He game me a quote of $6k for the stage II Procharger.

Edit: That price is WITH install and custom tune...

Prochargers are expensive anyways, maybe you should look into a Vortech S-trim? Besides, a Stage 2 procharger is going to give you twice the power the nitrous would.

I would definitely go with the supercharger. Since you are going to forge the internals, you can drop the compression with dished pistons and then you can run as much boost as you want. I have had a supercharger on my car for almost two years now, and I love it.

I have a 98GT with 02GT engine pushing 11lbs of boost with an S-trim and LT headers. My neighbor has a 2000GT with all the bolt-on’s but stock headers running an NX 100shot. I have 3.73 and he has 3.27.

We both have Autologic chips tuned by the same person on the same Mustang Dyno:

ME (Blower): 367rwhp, 367rwtq
HIM (NX100 shot) 325rwhp, 414rwtq

We haven’t been to the track yet (opens 4/7) but during a 50-120 blast, I end up about ½ car-length ahead. His car takes off like a Viper, and if you were to ride in both, you’d swear his would kill mine. But he can’t quite hang with me on top. I’ll probably post 2-3mph higher trap speeds than him, but we’ll both be in the 12’s on street tires. His car with LT’s and gears would probably beat mine.

That being said, I’m wishing I would have done nitrous now. The ridiculous torque makes it more fun on the street, and there’s no whine to give it away. I also don’t like having to wind my car out to 6200 rpm to get the most out of it. Plus, being able to turn it on and off is nice.

One misconception is that nitrous is cheap . . . with all the proper safety switches, purge kit, bottle warmer, dyno time and a flip chip, you’re only a few hundred $$$ less than a blower kit.

even WITH all the nitrous equip AND safety equip i thought it was only like $1-2k...where as a Charger is $3k minimum and thats not even installed and tuned.

but with a s/cer, you never have to fill a bottle, or worry about it running out. look around, you can find a good deal on s/cers if you look hard enough. i've seen used kits go for $1500. installing them is not THAT hard if you have some mechanical aptitude.

My buddy is up to $2300 and he doesn't have any guages or a purge. That does include a flip chip and dyno time for an N/A and spray tune, which isn't cheap.

Add another few hundred for gauges and a purge kit + install, then $30-40 to fill the bottle everytime. Nitrous CAN be cheap, but it's not effective or safe that way.

Who ever said Nitrous is safer is wrong. Nitrous is very difficult to tune, so it is almost a buessing game. You will see gradual boost through a supercharger or a turbo, which puts much less strain on the engine. Nitrous comes out with a strong burst, which can actually damage the internals of your engine more than if you went with a blower. Blower: constant power on tap. Nitrous: Have to get your bottle filled constantly, not always available. I think a blower is much safer and definitely the way to go. The only people I know who do nitrous do it because it is all that they have money for. If you have the money BLOW IT!

From my experience, I wouldn't call either of them safe. A good tuner can make either work well, but our internals are just too weak for me to feel comfortable with either.

well IF/WHEN i go blower or nitrous...i will forge the block with Manley rods,pistons, etc I can't afford another engine, so i'm doing it right the 1st time.

I say your less likely to blow your engine with a intercooled supercharger than with nitrous. I've seen more intake manifolds and thrown rods from nitrous than from supercharging by far. Either can be run safely if you are careful but i still think its much easier to slip up and boom with nitrous. Remember you get what you pay for.
