nitrous question

hey guys im thinking of putting a nitrous kit on my 95 gt, the zex safe kit. it says 15 -35 hp gains with upgradable parts to get to 150 hp gains. now ive only got the reg mods cold air, upper\lower mani, long tubes and off road exhuast. does anyone know if a higher shot is safe like a 75 or should i go with this? any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

the car has 67000 mi on it.

I've seen many 5.0 owners slap on 100 shots to their bolt-on motors and been fine, but it's gonna wear it down over time I'm sure. I'd say you're definitely safe with a 50 or 75 shot, but someone more knowledgeable on spray may be able to answer better on shots past 75.

i got a h/c/i with all bolt ons dynoing 323/341 on motor and 410/450 on a 100 zex dry shot....i only spray maybe twice a month at the strip...you could go 125 shot as well, just get it tuned

ZEX has a bad reputation for solenoids sticking, and blowing up motors. They claim there are no solenoids, but in realty they just covered the solenoids in a box. The most tried and true reliable kit is the one I run from NOS. It is the basic dry kit, although I must admit, the solenoids from NOS do fail quite often. If I were you, I would build your own kit. Get the fuel pressure booster from NOS, and the rest of the stuff from other companies. I use NX solenoids, which are excellent. I run two nitrous solenoids in line to ensure that one jamming won't be fatal to the engine. I also use a fuel pressure safety switch for added safety. The fuel pressure switch maxes out at 65 psi, but generally the main problem with the dry kits is the line blowing off the fpr altogether, which will definately drop the fp below 65psi. I would be more than happy to show you how to properly setup and wire a dry kit. I'm kind of sick of all the blower talk on here anyway. The dry kits are advertised up to 150hp, but if you know how to set it up, you can get 225hp out of them. There are directions on the internet on how to do it. My setup is top of the line, with auto timing retard on a Digital 6, purge valve, and a custom bottle warmer setup. Here are two great websites for nitrous parts.

KURT! Perfect thread.

I also just bought a nice NOS dry kit. I want to install it. But before i hurry and install it and have something fail as always, I want some advice on what else i should get as safety device.

I already have digital 6. I have my timing set at 10*

I bought the 5.0 kit so everything is there including the 15lb bottle. It's the 150hp kit.

I hate wiring stuff. Do you have picture of your car how you routed all the wires and where did you mount the bottle?

thanks guys for advise, revhead im gonna get my stuff from dynotune site u posted, they def have the best prices. i just have 1 more question, can a 75-150 shot be tuned to 50 or 60 shot?

In all honesty, depending on what brand you go with, buying a 75 shot will end up netting you around 50 horses to the wheels, so technically there's a 50 shot.

The funny thing about the NOS dry kits is that if you want technical advice you need to call Edelbrock. When Edelbrock wanted to get into the nitrous business, they wanted to come in strong, so they went over to NOS and offered all their employees hefty pay increases to come over to Edelbrock.

There are nice things to have, and safety items. Nice things to have are like a bottle warmer and a purge kit, but they don't make the kit any safer just more consistent. As far as safety, it is always a good idea to have a fuel pressure gauge, two solenoids (which the NOS kit comes with), and a fuel pressure safety switch (which the kit comes with).

I drilled and tapped the floor of the trunk, and bolted the bottle directly to the body.

You probably can get the kit down to a 60 shot, but I think you are wasting your time. As soon as you put it in the 60 shot, you are going to have it back up to 75 the next week. Trust me on that one. The only difference between the standard kit, and the 150shot kit is this little shim that goes in the fuel pressure booster. It adds more tension on the spring in there, which allows the nitrous to go to the FPR at a higher pressure. You can actually make that shim out of a beer can, but they aren't that expensive to buy.

I have a zex wet kit with a 150 shot. Very nice, however I have a tweecer and made a seperate map with much lower ignition advance
