I have a couple of questions about nitrous setups?? i was woundering what i would need to make my ar run vertually perfect with a 150 shoot of nos.... the mods i have are flowmasters cat backs and CAI its not much but thats what i need to know?? do i need to have a full 3inch exhaust or what??

On a stock block 150 is pushing it. Some people will say its ok, but Ive seen way to many stangs on the net and around where I live blow there engines on a 150 shot. A 100 shot would be fine though.

You dont have to run exhaust for nitrous either, and 3" is to big, 2.5" is as big you want to go because youll lose all back pressure on a 3".

Back pressure is never good.
But I agree, 150 is too much.
You will need (off the top of my head)
a custom tuneble "flip chip" for 2 seperate tunes
A good nitrous kit
a window switch
bottle heater
remote bottle opener
blow down kit
GOOD TUNE FROM A GOOD SHOP
run 93 octane
Save up for a clutch

The reason you can add 200HP safely with a S/C or turbo but not nitrous is this:
a supercharger and turbo build boost over a time period of a few seconds and do so in direct relation to the engine's RPM.
With nitrous, you go from 260HP to (in your case) 410HP in a millisecond. And can do so at any RPM you hit the button (without window switch).
This kind of shock on the engine internals and drive line is equal to about 600HP on a forced induction car. This is why people kill parts with N2O.
With the window switch, I would have the nitrous enguage no sooner than 4,000rpm, and cut off no later than 5,800rpm.
Total cost for a COMPLETE kit with the safety add ons is WAY more than a vortec kit and a 3.25" pully to run 10#'s of boost. Which with a very conservative tune get you at least 400RWHP.
And you could use it all the time, without filling a bottle.

well then i guess my question is what numbers are to be expected with a 100 shot... My friend has a 3800 and he is running 100 shot without very many problems just a blown spark plug every now and then..so i thought b/c i have a V8 i could handle more??

So your saying your not supposed to have pack pressure in your exhaust?

Thats what gives you torque. Unless your making ungodly amounts of power you dont need a 3" exhaust. Hell even the Shelbys with 550-600+rwhp are putting 3" on their cars are losing power. Im not saying you should have alot but you do need some.

If you really want to run a safe n2o setup, I would look at making sure your fuel system is in tip-top shape. One of the main reasons for blowing a motor with nitrous is because of running nitrous and leaning the motor out.

Anytime I installed nitrous on a customer vehicle, I would always suggest the add on of at least the following:

MSD DIS Ignition system - DIS4 comes with a 2 step rev limiter (you don't want to hit the stock rev limiter, it pulls fuel out, MSD limiter will just pull spark out)

Nitrous Express Progressive controller - this will help with the "shock" of adding a power adder to a stock engine. You won't go from ~260hp to instant ~400+hp all at once. The controllers are completely programmable via laptop. I would suggest this module over a window switch.

Of course, the normal add-ons are:

-Bottle heater
-Remote bottle opener
-Wide band A/F

Nitrous Express has a nice kit for 4.6L 2v's. Look up PN# 20946

Well most people make 300ish rwhp and 350-400+ rwtq, that is one great thing about Nitrous, the torque. As for your friend having a 100 shot on his V6, I’m not sure. Maybe that engine can handle it, or maybe your friend’s engine is about ready to blow. It’s hard telling.

On top of what Rickey said you will also need 1-2 steps colder spark plugs. Two separate tunes aren’t required but is nice to have. Basically if you didn’t do the two tunes you’d be running around with less power all the time because you’d have nitrous tune.

Im not a huge fan of Nitrous so I'll say this, if you have the money or can save up the money, do a SC. The money it will cost you to buy a nice Nitrous kit is a pretty good down payment on a SC. That and youll be able to make more power and run faster times with a SC. I looked into nitrous before I bought my SC and I know I made the right decision.

:jaw: This has got to be the biggest pile of horse $h!t ever spewed on this site......I don't even know where to begin:bang:

i would sya that i am using the nitros more or less as a substitute for the sc until i would like to buy one... i have to do with wht i got so im thinkin im going to go with a 100 shoi was just thinkn our engines couldhold more??

First of all, you can make a nitrous set up as safe as POSSIBLE, but that would make it guarenteed to be safe.

A 150 shot is not safe on a stock GT block. Many people have thrown rods that way. The biggest shot with a single fogger setup you should run is 100. You are going to need an upgraded fuel pump (focus fuel pump), window switch, fuel pressure safety switch, WOT switch, and fuel pressure gauge.

Just get a direct port setup, forged block, and spray 300 in that bitch!

NOS=Blown Motor

Seriosuly, do you even know what your talking about?

Nitrous can be as safe as a blown motor setup or turbo. You just need to use your brain and buy all the safety parts.

Most people that come to this board and say "help me I blew my engine with nitrous!" are the people that didn't use a window switch, sprayed 150 dry, and sprayed all the way to 5th gear. So don't come here and give nitrous a bad name, when you have no personal experience, or knowledge about this subject.

so im hearing a lot about this window switch...i have eard a lot about the wot switch but not the window what is it??

It's a device that allows you to spray nitrous in a certain "window" or time frame in the RPM band. For example, it may be set between 3500 and 5500 RPM's. That means the nitrous won't be sprayed until you hit 3500 RPM's. It will stop spraying at 5500 RPM's. You WANT a window switch because spraying at 2000 rpm's is very bad for the engine. The wide open throttle switch (WOT) makes it so the system will not spray the nitrous until the car is completely at wide open throttle.

lol.. there's a lot of bad information in this thread about nitrous...

all of the things mentioned by the98stang are what make nitrous systems run safely, along with a good dyno tune to check any lean spike. And you can get all that stuff for under 1500-2000 (at the most), which is not even close to the s/c kits.

I feel stupid because I left the most important part out- the dyno tune, lol.

Nitrous kits are very nice because the torque gains are rediculous. The only b1tch is refilling the damn bottle :nonono: . I'll be selling my kit soon for a novi 2000
