hey all, i mostly frequent the 4.6 section, but im working on a friends 66 289 2bbl. it has a motorcraft carb with electric choke. the motor was rebuilt "recently" as i was told by the owner. it either blew a head gasket or had a intake manifold gasket failure that resulted in a nice chocolate milk mixture.

in taking the heads off, i noticed that there was no wiring going to the choke. the wiring that goes to the temp gauge is present, however i did not see any wiring that would go to the choke. does anyone have any advice on how i would recreate a wiring harness to the choke, or if i can tap into the temp gauge harness.

also any pictures of what the area is supposed to look like would be greatly appreciated. thanks for the help.

For an electronic choke, you can use any wire that is on with the ignition. +12V when ignition is set to "run".

Most electric assist chkes used a wire from the alt. to power them. I don't remember the 66 ever having one. Is it a replacement/later model carb.?

Electric choke was not an option on the 66, but can be retrofitted from a donor car - I think it wires from the 'STAT' terminal on the alternator.

I had a choke problem on my 66 (knackered stove pipes) so I fitted a manual choke:

Hope this helps.

Enterpretation please

Just make sure that you dont hook a wire up that is constant voltage. Make sure it is switched on and off with the ignition. Dont tap into your temp sensor wire it may throw your temp reading off.

This is correct. Dont wire it to a 12 volt circuit as it will burn it out. Wire it to the STAT terminal which only has about 7 volts.
