No Heat

My '96 has no heat on any setting. The temp control knob seems to work fine it steps 1 notch at a time, but still no heat. Is this the heater core?

Just bought it a couple of weeks ago. No mods as of yet. if the thermo was stuck it would over heat, YEAH? I guess it could be stuck open, but how does that effect heat inside?

If your thermostat is stuck open, the coolant/water constantly flows thru the motor and circulates thru the radiator, keeping the coolant/water cool, which means...no heat inside 4 U. When a thermostat is working correctly, once your motor warms up, the thermostat will close, which blocks the coolant from continually circulating thru the radiator and motor. Thus, the coolant heats up from the friction of the motor, which then runs hot coolant/water thru your heater core, which is how you get heat inside your car.

Put a new thermostat in and you'll have heat again.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but you can overheat with a stuck open t-stat as well; the coolant never gets enough time to fully cool in the radiator before passing through the block again.

These are cheap and it never hurts to replace them anyway, with that age on it.

Make sure you replace it with a fail-safe thermostat. A cheaper, fail-closed one can leave you stranded on the side of the road at best and very quickly fry our engine at worst.

Definately not the thermo. Replaced with a pretazone 190 fail-safe OE thermo. Still no heat.... Where to now. Got the service CD on order, we'll see what we can do when it gets here?????????

Check and see if the heatercore has been bypassed. Last owner might have
bypassed it instead of replacing it.

What am I looking for. Im not a ford guy and have never even messed with a heater core. I know it has 2 tubes that are supposed to come out of the fire wall, but where on the gt?
