No new Camaro

The April issue of Motor Trend says the new z/28 is ready to go. The problem is that the car is on hold. GM ram out of money to finish and launch the car. Insiders also say "if we leave it to long, the car will become irrelevant." GM product chief Bob Lutz said "we need to make the world right first."

How long has the concept been out? Im guessing 3-4 years. my opinion it is already irrelevant. I knew this thing wouldn't make it.

Almost to bad though as a 556 hp blown 6.2 would force me to buy a procharger for my GT.

GM has bigger problems than trying to release a muscle car.

They are trying to get money from the bail out, GM could be going under, lay offs etc.

I had a feeling the "threat" of the camaro would not be coming..

the Z28 is postponed i think. the SS we'll still see i'm 99% sure.

pontiac is going to be getting knocked down to a few models that aren't any other GM car, like the G8 and stuff like that.

Saturns going under, last i heard this up coming year. I think if GM released a z28 after asking for a bail out they would be laughed at and denied any help i'm sure.

its a shame, because they could of released the camaro alot sooner, and maybe that would of helped pull them out.

their Chevy volt that they have spent so much money on and have been talking up a storm about is supposed to be "if this car doesn't sell like hotcakes we're done" kinda ordeal.

lets take a look at the specs.

After 40 miles (64 km), the range of the Volt will need to be extended through the use of a small 4-cylinder ICE which drives a 53 kW generator. The electrical power from the generator is then sent to either the electric motor or the batteries, depending on the state of charge (SOC) of the battery pack and the power demanded at the wheels. The distribution is controlled by the electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle. This effectively extends the Volt's potential range to as much as 640 miles (1,030 km) on a single tank of fuel[8] (which could be potentially extended for longer trips through conventional refueling).[9][10]

pretty awesome. your probably thinking, oh, wow, that sounds great, they should be fl=ying out the dealership lots faster then they can get built.

then you find out they are going to be priced at 40k, and then mark up. you may be looking at spending the price of a GT500 on a electric car. I know what i'd rather have.

I work at GM dealership, and everyone there i've talked to agrees its a great idea until the price tag comes into play.

btw, we dont need a z28 to have a threat from GM, we've got the SS, the pontiac G8s, + vettes. + trailblazer SS's and etc. GM will keep us on our toes. haha.

The Volt is the first decent idea at a low emissions car. They should have put a diesel in it, but whatever. What they are saying is that they can get 600 miles out of 12 gallons of gas (a tank), thats 50 MPG, double what we get and about 1/3 better than small engine cars (civic and such). Use a diesel and I bet its 75 MPG (seriously, there's a reason why trains are diesel-electric and not gasoline-electric). When will people realize that this is the way to go...

on the volt the gas motor is just to recharge the battery. so you don't neccesarily have to burn any fuel and get where your going as long as its 40 miles or less.

i'd agree with throwing a diesel option on there, but the problem is finding a diesel pump. some areas its more readily available some, the gas pump attendant will look at you like you have 3 heads.

and diesels a cleaner burning fuel if i remember right.

its an awesome idea, a pretty nice looking car too, not looking like a giant toaster. cough cough prius.

i like the volt because it looks like a normal car. the prius looks too out of the ordinary. i drove a prius, and it felt like i was driving a gimmick.

i'm not going to go out and buy a hybrid, but some of the technology coming through is awesome.

lol, I'm aware of that. It's the only true hybrid, these other "hybrids" are just electric assist and generally speaking a bad idea, or at least going about it in a bass ackwards way.

Seriously to all the people that say 'oh dear, we should all be sad that GM is going under...' who do you think shot themselves in the foot? Yeah people losing their jobs is not good news, but they asked for the bail out, they drank the water, now they're not in control of their company. No camaro? oh well. I couldn't care less, I thought it was ugly from day one. If I wanted a camaro i'd have a '69 z/28.

eh i dunno, i support the american auto industry. be it Chrysler, GM, or the blue oval.

I'd rather see a chevy on the road then 300 hybrid pricks who think we're *******s because we like gas guzzlers. at least the chevy guys understand the want for a car with a motor with good power.

i will never own a camaro, but it doesn't mean i don't want them on the road. its no fun whippin on hondas all day, need some competition. afterall, with competition on the road, it will make ford want to make our cars more powerful and etc.

yeah there are quite a few jerk off chevy drivers, theres quite a few mustang drivers that are pricks too. so its not just one car company.

i'm 90% sure the corvette is the longest running sports car. i think there was one year they didn't make one. and people are still buying corvettes.

considering our cars can get whooped on by lightly modded LS1 equipped f bodies, i think GM deserves a little respect for a 10 year old car with a couple bolt ons to be beating on a brand new stang.

fords had the best selling vehicle for a while until recently, when the F series got knocked down. they also have all the crown victorias for police work and taxi driving, i've even seen fusions and focus's do random company work. Got town cars for limos. my old job had 3 E series. If it weren't for those i don't think ford would be doing any better then GM or Chrysler.

i hope i'm not considered the bow-tie apologist. i'm just not afraid of having a car come out that could possibly be competition. yeah its going to be fast. maybe faster then quite a few of our cars according to car and drivers test of a 12.3 i think it was for an auto, and a 12.4 for a manual. its going to be more expensive then our cars, and it'll just give us a reason to modify ours to make them faster.

I don't see what the big deal is about GM planning a Z28 that'll run damn close to gt500 if not higher in price. ford has always been the more affordable car and cheaper to modify.

i welcome the z28.

same. without the blower, just blow past them. cause alot of the ones i've run into that are usually at fault for something driving, act like its my fault. like when they cut ME off.

so i downshift and floor it past em while giving them the bird.

working on a prius at the shop i work at and i just can't stand the car. like the 3rd time its been wrecked and back in our shop. this time it was so damn close to being totaled but not enough, but it wont start, so it very well may end up totalled AFTER we repair the body.

No new Camaro
