Just got done putting together an 85 roller 302 and got no oil pressure on startup.
What was done:
Block decked, new cam bearings, new crank bearings, new pistons, new rings, new lifters. Same heads and oil pump as when it ran before.
Everything went together real easy except for one of the oil gallery plugs on the front of the engine (went in cockeyed, but pulled it out and got it in straight). Bearing clearances were all within spec.
Start up / Diagnosis:
Ran the pump for quite a while and it never built pressure on the gauge (yes, it was turning the correct direction). It's clearly moving some oil as when you pull the hose going to the pressure gauge you get oil squirting out. Got it started, let it run for 5 seconds and still no pressure (lifters were ticking, so clearly no oil to the valve train).
Pulled the timing cover and all the galley plugs are in place, none have backed out.
What else could it be? Bad filter??? I'm stumped for ideas here guys!
