No oxygen sensors.. cause damage?

It made your car run in limp mode during closed loop operation(when it was warmed up and crusing). Limp mode makes the car run pig rich, because the o2 sensors aren't giving the output numbers it needs to properly adjust the air to fuel ratio. The start up problem had nothing to do with the o2 sensors, because like I said they don't do anything till the computer is in closed loop operation. Some cars of cousre have computer problems and never see closed loop operation.

i actually had an '88 GT with no sensors..ran like any other 5.0 i've ever driven, never stalled, ran like a bat out of hell...so i'm clueless on this subject. I know they serve a purpose so maybe it was a fluke?

What is you MPG? How do your plugs look? If all is well, I would not worry about it. I know a guy here who has no O2's and says he gets very good mpg. Something over 20mpg is outstanding. Much of this depends on your driving habits though.

I bought the car in august... have only driven it like 10 KM, so i really doubt that anything went wrong.. just pissed me off when i first found them!

MPG is unknown, i havnt been able to drive the car. I'll check the plugs today and submit a pic. What colour should they be? What should i look for?

The previous owner had an O/R h-pipe so he didnt drive it like it is, atleast not for long.

for some reason it seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle. my car ran so rich it smoked and crap. got like zero miles to the gallon. lol put new ones in and i get better gas mileage and no more richness. some comp. chips are made to bypass your o2 sensors.

Running without the O2's will cause the car to run in limp home mode resulting in a rich condition and a check engine light. The side effect of running rich tho will destroy the catalytic converters completely by saturating them with Hydrocarbons or unburnt fuel. But hey, who needs those anyhow?

I NEED THEM! We have emissions in Ontario, it sucks.

That would explain my CE light coming on a few minutes after i start the car.. (after it tries to get out of "limp home mode" im guessing?)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Thanx you guys you helped me out too, somewon cut my wires too and it runs like really rich, the car doesnt have cats but it still had like a black smoke when i steeped on it, judt gotta re wire them and make shure all the vacum lines are correct

When I put my H pipe on and tried to take the O2 sensors out of the stock pipe it pulled the threads out of the pipe.I had new ones on hand but thought I'd save the old ones for spares but no such luck so beware of that problem also.

my car doesn't have the o2 sensors hooked up.... actully no wirea going to them... benn this way for a year now and have had no prob..... I get great gas millage... 20 city and can you belive i get 26 on the highway .... just went to JAX and got 312 miles out of a tank................ unbelivable
