Have a 95 5.0 with not spark from the coil at times. Replaced the coil, ign module, cap and rotor and it still intermittenity has not spark or drops spark when dirving.

Thanks for any info.

oh, i responed to this in the "talk" section. Double post... tricky tricky

anyways here was my reply:

"Welcome to the boards!

Could be your PIP (profile ignition pickup) sensor in the distributor. One way to check this is to see if your injectors are firing when you are not getting spark. Use a noid light to check for injector firing. If the injectors are also not firing, you found the problem. But if the PIP is failing, alot of times it will throw a code, even if the CEL isn't on. Check your codes first.

If the PIP checks out fine, make sure your engine grounds are in good shape as well as the fuel pump ground cable.

Good luck"

Thanks everyone

Took the dist. out, pressed off the gear and replaced the pick up. Seems to have fixed the problem.

Does Ford have a technical service bulletin on this problem? I seem to notice it happening more and more on these sites.

Dealer

The local Ford dealer just laughed when I talked to them. They said the only thing they could do was to order me a new dist. for $450.00. They basicly said it was a dinasour and it seemed to me they really didn't have much of an interest in helping me. Anyway I just went to the local parts store and purchased the pick-up for $30.00 and it still seems to be fixed.

I don't know of any recall or notice from the dealer regarding this problem. I really don't think they care about vehicles that are 10 years olds or more.

they dont care, your right; I went there looking for intake manifold bolts for the cobra intake and not only did the service counter guy not know anything about what a lower intake manifold is, he knew nothing of what the bolt pattern meant, and he was like "this means nothing to me" and at a later point was like "well the car is over 10 years old there really is nothing we can do, I know nothing about this kind of thing" I left there with a very sour taste in my mouth

I also agree - it's just a wear item.

Not agreed. It is not MEANT to be a wear item. It was poorly constructed and as a result it falls apart as it gets old and brittle. I'm not saying Ford should do a recall, but maybe they could have some sort of bulletin on the problem so people can address it before it leaves them stranded.

Then again, they only made them for 2 years, so there's not really that many to worry about, to them anyway. As for the comment on the service you get from the parts counter, it all depends on who is on the other side. Most of the time the person behind the counter doesn't know or doesn't care about Fords period! They should do a "Make loyalty test" before hiring these asshats in the first place! Rarely, you'll find a fellow enthusiast working in the parts dept., then you're golden!

In my mind, most sensors are wear items. If someone gets 100K miles out of one, that's its useful lifespan IMHO. It seems to me that recalls and TSB campaigns are mostly for issues found under warranty, and PIPs werent failing in horrid amounts (additionally, many PIP's are taken out by bad dizzy bushings).

I guess we just see it a little differently, and that's what the forums are all about - mutual respect though we might not agree.
