this isnt a mustang but I still have a question.

My dad and I rebuilt the engine (351w stroked to 408 ) and had started up with no problem. Broke her in a little bit. Took her out for her first drive yesterday. While we were driving she seemed to lunge forward on normal acceleration followed by a high pitched whining sound during acceleration. The whining sound is not present at idle. Brought it home when we put it into reverse she made a loud klunk noise and whining noise (this is a c-6 tranny). So we turned her off and when we went to start her again we get nothing. Just a single click. Battery is charged and there is no problem. Any ideas to look for the problem?

Can the motor be turned over by hand?? Sounds like something binded uo in the tranny part. Check the converter and flywheel,??

Might ,also want to check the starter, for any problems... Not engaging or disengaging...

I believe we found the problem....

the starter gear was worn down!

now the questions is how do we prevent this from happening? and can that gear just be replaced?
