no start with key + a couple other questions

the only way i can start my car right now is if i put the key in the on position and then jump the solenoid with a screw driver? i already replaced the ignition switch and the starter solenoid...could my problem be my neutral safety switch? BTW the car is an 88 and a auto....this happened all of a sudden...got it running great went around the block and shut it off in the driveway..went to start it back up and it just clicks...

also i have no brake lights if i push the brake peddle down...if i pull the brake light switch manual it will work but not if i push the brake peddle down...


next question..

my top will not go down..only up....could my switch be bad or is it something more?

I think mustangs also have a solenoid on the starter itself, check that. The neutral safety switch being bad is a possibility, but there wouldn't be any clicking.

figured out the starter...got the push button start to work so i know its the neutral safety switch...now onto the brake light switch...any ideas?

my ignition is doing the same thing. I have traced it down to the acutator assembly. They always brake so it will not let the ignition switch on the colum start the car. I am having mine replaced this weekend. The part itself is only 10.00 from Ford.

yeah i found a way to bypass the neutral safety switch and jumped my car and it cranks...so that's my problem...im just going to wire in the push button start...that way i don't have to throw and more money at this problem and it will be temporarily fixed...then i can focus on getting the brake lights working and getting my top on and painting it...

btw you sure thats it...thats what i thought mine was...replaced it and it didnt fix it..

You are such a half asser. If the neutral safety switch is bad, replace it. Dont wire in some stupid push button start thing.

have you tried putting it in neutral and then trying to start it? check the sensor/switch deal on your brake pedal. they sometimes work loose and you can zip tie it back up.

nahh let him wire it half assed, then when he starts it in gear and it goes through the garage door or backs into his dads car we can hear all about it and watch him fill the board up with pics, vids, and emoticons.
