Noise comming from shifter/transmission

I am new to this forum but i have a 1990 lx. It has a b&m shifter and a stock t-5 transmission. One night when i was driving it suddenly started making a chattering noise (only word i can think of to describe it) anyway the chatter gets louder as i accelerate and is present in every gear except 4th and reverse. I was wondering what could be causing this.

every gear but 4th and reverse? is it just a chatter or a grinding/metal breaking noise? if it's a chatter, it might be the throwout bearing, but i don't see why it would do it in every gear but 4th and reverse.

Yeah it doesn't really sound like a metal grinding noise? Maybe the noise just isn't as present in 4th gear and reverse?

it can really be couple things. it can be the shifter rattling on the stop, it can be the shifter handle vibrated loose from the shifter a bit and is now rattling on the shifter, it can be the throwout bearing like i said. how many miles are on the transmission? did the driveability of the car change? explain a little more
