My 89 Hatchback has a small, almost popping slash odd clunking noise coming from rear of car. To anyone with experience with Weld wheels, its similar to the sound a Weld Wheel makes when your loosening the lug nuts, like the pressure being released... Thats the only way I can describe the sound. I have checked the wheels, they aren't loose. I checked the exhaust and its not the tail pipes hitting the frame of the car. Its ONLY when I start out in 1st Gear, like right when I take off easy. And its worst like if there is a strain on the driveline, such as uphill at a stop sign. Im thinking its the Axle bearings. Its the original rear. And the U-joint feels normal. I did notice the Spring insulators are pretty worn, but don't think its them... Anyone have any suggestions? Or more then likely axle bearings?
