I'm at my wits end! If any one has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

I have a 99 GT that I had suspension work on a few months ago. MRT Street kit, Maximum Motorsports CC plates, replacement outer tie rods, poly bushings and spring isolators. Ever since the install, there's been a clunk/pop noise from the front when the wheel is turned all the way and going over a bump- like turning into a driveway, sharp U-turn, or backing out while turning.

Today, I took the mechanic with me to reproduce the clunk/pop noise. He retorqued all of the suspension components and found nothing loose in the springs/shocks/cc plates. He did say that the steering rack was a little loose but that he never heard that noise from a loose rack. I know others have had this problem before. Has anyone fixed it? I've read a few posts about replacing the rack and the clucnk was still there. Did replacing the rack fix the clunk for anyone? Maybe the bearings for the MM CC plates are defective and binding. How can I tell if the bearing is binding or not?

Thanks for you help,
Jim

If you are talking about the clunk that sounds like there is something loose in the area of the wheel well then I have the samething on my 02. Mine will also do the noise now under a hard take off. And I can do a u-turn quietly as long as I dont apply power at all during the u-turn. But, I too looked all over and the only thing I found was that I could see a gap on the sides of the front control arm bushings and also found a TSB about the front control arms being replaced to fix the problem. But, I read on here where people are putting the 03-04 cobra arms on to get increased turning radius and better steering geometry. I will be replacing mine with these in about 2 weeks. cant wait

Did the caster camber plates come with an insert for the strut. Sometimes there will be a gap between the strut rod (the part that sticks up through the caster camber plate) and the cc plate. My buddy's 98 cobra did the same thing when we put his cc plates on, we just needed the insert. Good luck-Jeff

either something wasnt installed right, or you might need the steeda X2 balljoints if the car has been lowered more than 1.5"
