Non H.O. cam with H.O. again..

Doing the pin jumper seems easy enough. I'll need to go all the way back to my shop to see if I have another chunk of old harness to rob the pins from, but I should be able to get this done in the a.m. . This is what I will need to do to use the automatic ecu or just in general needs to happen?

Just in case you guys tell me I need something I dont have I figured I'd look up the number to the big mustang salvage yard not far from me. It's been years since I've been out there so I hit the Google box right, and the 1st link was the info.. but the 2nd was a link to a thread on Corral.net about how this guy been robbing people blind even keeping the spare keys to cars he sold so they could steal them back. Let's just hope I got everything otherwise its probably gonna be Ebay or try and build it myself. Not goin back to a dirty shop

It needs to happen regardless. You need to pin it to match the ECU you use, so if it's an automatic ECU in the car, you'll need to move the jumper accordingly and the same goes for the manual ECU. It's not going to solve your issue yet, but it's checking off a box of things that should be in place.

A quick check to verify if it's right is to keep the ECU out, crank the engine over and check for voltage on pin 46. You should never have voltage on pin 46. If you do, it will fry the ECU.

On the 5-wire O-2 harness, I've highlighted the 5 wires you should have. Can you check these to make sure the colors match the colors on the engine side of the harness? I'm not 100% sure if the 5-wire harness is pinned out the same was as the 7 wire jumpered O2 harness is. I have one at home, but can't check til later. The actual O2 sensor wires are DG/P, BK/LG, DG/P and DB/LG. The White/pink wire is the low oil sensor wire.

I just checked this against the 5-wire harness I have and it appears the colors do match up despite not having the jumper.

Got lucky, still had some of the 95 harness left and got the jumper off that one and got it in. Got it in the correct spot for manual transmission.

check pin 46 for voltage before you fire it up. SHould be fine, but in the off chance something is wrong, voltage there (12v) can fry the ECU.

Not to hijack the thread but Mustang5L5 I'm putting a 5.0 in my 62 Falcon. Here's my setup...88 non HO soon to have a 95 HO cam, Painless 60510 stand alone harness, 8LD ECU, 94 Mustang 4R70W and BEControls Quick 2 trans controller. The Painless harness instructions tell me to splice pin #30 into pin #46 when running an auto on a manual ECU. The 8LD is a CA emissions, MAF, SEFI, for T5 equipped 88 Mustang. I checked with painless and they confirmed it would work.

@Mr.Kelley jump on in here bro I'm already interested curious why you're using the 8DL though when the A9P (I think) is the later automatic mass air computer. I just think it would work better if your going automatic. As far as that jumper goes you'll have to wait for the more experienced folks to answer that. And for the cam a stock cam is nice but a B or E cam has a really nice sound and great performance without eating fuel mileage.

I need to change the header on this thread lol. I really only had the one question and it got answered long time ago. You guys just helping me make sure I dont tear it up in the driveway now. But speaking of.. what other solutions do people give for this? I got change the 10 pin, disconnect O² harness, splicing the O² harness, and relocate injector harness. I'm writing it all up so it can go in a sticky. There's only 3 ways to correctly fix non H.O. cam in H.O. motor; change eec/ecu, change cam, or install carburetor.

If someone is using a non HO cam in a car, truck, bus or airplane that is setup for HO cam there is only one way to fix it correctly.
Install an HO cam, what HO cam to go with is subjective,
Done.
This may be an example of 'too much information'.
And 'not enough facts'.
Each of these computers, designed for use with auto trans or stick, speed density or mass air, now you throw in changes in sensor wiring from one year to the next is a recipe for another stang relegated to the back yard waiting for the trip to the junk yard.
I skimmed back through this thread and I have to ask because I'm confused (this is not unusual for me)
@Mr. Magoo are you going to swap to a HO cam?

This is a unique situation because I don’t think we’ve ever had anyone with a HO setup run a non-H.O. cam. Most usually change the cam.

Most common fix tends to be to repin the ECU to swap the two pairs of injectors.

@General karthief I'm not certain yet what I'm going to do. For the time being fix what I have so I can go play and budget out a rebuild for later. Obviously this engine is not what I was sold to believe so I'm not sure what I'm working with yet. I do have to put an intake gasket on and will be taking an exploratory dive into the top end at least. Either way I'm not planning on upgrading to mass air bc I really dont need it, I'm not building anything big enough to need it. I do have my E cam out of my last engine but im doubting this one is actually roller.
