non-mach460 amp bypass question

i got a new head unit installed on my 1998 mustang (non-mach460). i was told that even if it's not a mach460, there are some mustangs with factory amps and some without. well anyways the installation people wired up the head unit without bypassing the amp, and my volume bar is super sensitive. it goes all the way up to 30 levels, but 5 is extremely loud. how do i bypass the amp? where is it located? do i need another wiring harness? thanks.

There's an amp right behind the dash, underneath the head unit. You can buy an amplifier bypass kit from BB, CC, or any stereo shop for like $15. There's a couple plugs towards the front of the car that plug into the amp. If you had a wiring diagram, you could also just connect the speaker leads from the HU to the wires that lead off the harness going from the amp to the speakers. You might be able to take the plugs off the amp without removing it, but I took mine out completely, so I can't remember. There's three screws that hold it in, so it's not too hard to get it out.

hey if you want to do this real easy pop the radio out and see what kind of harness they used. if it isnt the 2 rectangle plugs then u are in luck. To the right in the dash are 2 rectangle plugs that by pass the amp and work fine with the non 460 systems. Go to best buy but the non amp plugs wire it up and plug it in and you are done.
