Hey guys I just picked up a teal 93 LX. Its a great car but I hate the non tilt steering column. I am not concerned with the air bag at all. Can I get a column from a pre 89 car and will the harness accept it?

You might not be concerned but VA might not like it. Dont they do vehicle inspections? Isnt VA notorious for vehicle law.

Plus.. its Illegal to remove the SRS system from a vehicle that one installed from the factory, unless its strictly a race car...

THe NHTSA is suing West Coast Customs for disableing the airbags in a vehicle they did for "Pimp My Ride"

Yeah but as long as the air bag light is not on how are they going to test it. Well I guess I see your point, but how many casual inspectors would know this about a Mustang? Just really curious about the swap as I think the harness would be the same. Any ways I could get a passing inspection at the right place

You should find all the info you need from a search, if not on here then corral.net has the info. (it's a hell of a lot faster than me trying to explain it all) also check out www.tidewaterracing.com it is a local hampton roads board with some cool people on it.

Airbags are considered a secondary restrainst system and it is legal for the OWNER of the vehicle to remove the bags. However, if you sell the car you need to inform the buyer the car no longer has working bags.
