ok im a noob here but by no means a noob to the motorsport world i recently sold my 5.0 ranger and have a bronco2 rock crawler fullwidth... Heres my new project dillema or questions for ya.. i just purchased a 88lx 2.3L the engine is almost new its a 5 speed car it allready has a spec clutch and modded suspension but thats about it...im looking to try to build a ricer killer with this thing i have a 5.0 in the garage but who dont have an lx with one of tose in it i wanna build a 2.3 thatll make those v8 guys cringe so i do have another option too this is my question i also have a 88 t-bird turbo coupe my two options here are take the t/c entire engine and swap to start as a base i was told that it may have forged internals ....or i can just rob the turbo and manifold and assorted junk and go with that on the stang2.3 what do you guys think....also im looking for some simple mods to get a little more hp out of it but i want to go with stuff that will not need upgraded as the car grows any ideas....what im looking for is build a hella fast street car without sacrificing to much dependablilty ...2.3 turbo..prolly like to run a wet nitrous system if i can find one and get away with it.....Thanks Zach

Thanks for the links im new to this who;e turbo concept im a na guy normally so this is my first go at the whole turbo thing hell my panger ran 12.85 na ...does anyone have a link or can help out me like a turbo for dummies book when i pop the hood on the stang i can relate everything i see but the t bird turbo engine looks like a bam madusa head with wires and hoses runnine everywhere and wastegates boost controllers ect im lost...Zach

Well, if you want to turbo the stang, you're definitely better off just swapping in the Turbo Coupe engine (forged pistons vs. cast). As for the other details, well...you asked a lot of questions in your posts. Turboford.org is a good research (but don't go on there asking a bunch of basic questions as they will probably go unanswered...use the search function to find what you're looking for)

Not sure if I can help you out as far as the "turbo for dummies" thing, but trust me when I say that the 2.3 Turbo is really a lot simpler than it looks. Everything on it (externally) is basically the same as the 2.3 n/a, except for the exhaust manifold and turbo (and intercooler), and there are a few more vacuum lines, and the heater hoses are different. If you get the engine out of the car and look it over, you'll see what I mean...it's really not that bad.

thanks i understand sometimes type faster than i think... OK ONE MORE Q? theroeticly if i have everything i need can this be done in a weekend so i can drive to work on monday??? Zach

lol it can be done in a "weekend" but , remember..you get what you put into it. If you half-butt( ;) ) it, you will be left on the side of the road scratching your head! Once i got mine in and running good, its been super as far as reliability goes.

Well im a long time car and truck builder with alot of custom fabrication experience..so half but approach is out of the question...but basicly im looking at only new exaust fuel pump a few brackets and mechanicals seeing how the t/c is loaded and im only gonna keep the alt and pwr steering pumps...and just a little computer wiring changes and intake system mods and theoreticly i should be on the road after i set up clutch...does that sound about right...Zach
